I have been bad blogging, probably because we're having an amazing time, maybe because we don't have wifi in the room. Not because we're still wandering around trying to find a hostel-we found one fairly easily and made the right decision not pre booking.
So, basically Phi Phi is beautiful. What every perfect postcard looks like. It's a small island with limestone cliffs surrounding, clear seas and white beaches. There are nice places to chill out - we watched 'The Beach' on a rooftop bar last night. Big screen, bamboo huts, deckchairs, graffiti. But at the other end of the scale there are fire shows at 10pm on the beach, followed by a rave scene in the bars on the sand which go well on into the morning.
We had a wonderful time watching United beat Chelsea. 10pm our time. We drank too much, ending in plastic buckets of local rum on the beach. It meant a massive hangover yesterday anyway and I was suffering a lot.
We did a boat trip today on a small longtail boat in stupidly rough waters and I nearly drowned with awful waves crashing into a cove of cliffs at a point where you needed to swim to climb up the rocks to see where 'The Beach' was filmed. Yes it was stupidly pretty but nothing is worth drowning. I cut my feet on the coral too from the waves bashing me so I also had to sit through them being cleaned with alcohol as it's poisonous and can cause a nasty infection. Anyway, that's the short story. We got back and had a few cocktails on the beach and everything was ok again if I don't remember. I can also still taste the sea water. But you need at least 1 near death experience to be a traveller apparently. I could have done without it to be honest, it was awful. Really.
So, safely on dry land we have at least 2 more nights chilling and I will try to update later. Due to only being able to get to Maya Bay ('The Beach') by water, I couldn't take any photos so feel free to google image it and see what we're having to put up with!
Will update soon x
