Kanchanaburi seems nice enough. The only thing is as we're staying on the river there are even more mosquitos. And we're in a little bungalow so lots of things can get in! Ben has blocked the big gap under the door with a towel and we have been busy squashing mosquitos in our room by using a flip flop on each hand, then flip flop high fiving after every kill! We have our own bathroom, and the thing has a window that doesn't close. Great. There's a lizard that lives in our sink. She's only small. We've called her Lizzy. And a big spider was blocking the window earlier. I've put off showering tonight but I can't do that forever. There are lizards everywhere. In shops, on every sign, on every bar ceiling. They're pretty small and harmless. The frogs are properly going for it outside as well. It's like being in the jungle. Seen 2 cockroaches so far when we were walking around earlier. Nowhere near as big as the last beast though. I'd half stepped over 1 and then it did a little fly which made me do a very undignified jump. Then 1 jumped and flew aiming at Ben when he was walking in front of me. What was it trying to do? He jumped as well! These flying cockroaches are a different ball game. I'm not sure I'll be able to cope once they get into our room which I'm sure is only a matter of time.
We're on quite a busy street with lots of restaurants and bars so it'll be nice not to have to haggle with tuk tuks to get around. I had red curry again tonight, I think I have a problem. Must try other things!
Tomorrow we're heading to Tiger Temple. It's run by monks looking after rescued tigers which have been brought up by humans so are really tame, which means you can have your photo taken with them. It's exciting but I think I might be scared!! You're not allowed to wear red, pink or orange and have to cover up (I think due to the cubs being playful and scratching).
We've also seen a good tour that involves seeing the beautiful Erawan Waterfall, elephant trekking(!), bamboo rafting, Krasae cave, riding the train on the Death Railway and seeing the bridge on the River Kwai all in 1 day. It means we could get a lot done in a day but it will eat into our budget so we may have to sacrifice something. I really want to do the walk through Hellfire Pass as well. It's about 73m long and isn't used anymore but the passage through the rocks was made by the POWs. The Memorial Museum is supposed to be really good as well and some of the cemetaries very moving. Monkey school would be fun! We might have to narrow it down though.
The photo is a painting in a bar from earlier. 2007 team so I apologise for Tevez being on it. No Scholes, Evra or Fergie though. They have 1 of Arsenal as cowboys and Liverpool all on mopeds-were they implying they had stolen them all?
