We reached Ayutthaya yesterday via a 6 hour bus, but a really good bus compared to what we're used to! It's final destination was Bangkok though, so they nicely just dropped us on the side of a motorway. Cheers!!! A guy tried charging us £4 to get into town in his 'taxi' (a pick up truck) which was a definite joke so we had to cross the motorway(!) and wander around for about 15 minutes until someone finally showed us the place to get a bus from. The bus cost 40p for us both to get to the backpacker area. In your face £4 man!!!
Today we hired bikes to cycle around town, which is filled with various ruins and temples. It was the most busy road cycling we've done so far but it was fine. We visited 1 temple which had a 6m pure gold Buddha in it and 2 sites of ruins, 1 filled with models of cockerels(?) and the shock of seeing a monk building something with a cig in his mouth (1. I didn't know monk's did work and 2. Surely they're not allowed to smoke?!) and the other site was large and impressive ruins with lots of Buddha's (see pic). There was only so much we could see though due to how spread out the sites were, the heat (3 sunny days in a row, yay!) and cost.
Tomorrow we head to Lopburi for the day; the town filled with monkeys. I'm scared of being attacked, apparently they just grab people's bags!
P.s. Whilst cycling along a dirt track today, a giant lizard was strolling along the path, but then ran off very noisily when we got closer. I thought he was a Komodo Dragon but I've been googling and maybe he's a Monitor Lizard. They are a relative of the dragons and grow up to over 3m! He was big!
