Well we managed to watch United and it was well worth it. We found the channel that had it on last time and could watch it live online on our phones. We slept this time and just set our alarms for kick off. What a game. V exciting and we played so well.
Today we got up before 11 to say that we'd been up in the night. We did some washing (with a machine for once!) and planned to go up the city walls. We went up and you could hire a tandem so we did! It was lots of fun riding above the city but pretty scary at times as it's quite hard to balance! I went at the back. I had a go at the front but I couldn't balance properly and Ben was just laughing at me! I blame the seat, it was far too high!
We also went to see the drum tower, bell tower and the Great Mosque in the Muslim Quarter. The Muslim Quarter was crazy. Street stalls on either side with food and anything you could think of buying but the streets were so thin with bikes and rickshaws trying to get past you. I'm surprised neither of us have been hit by something yet! Just on the normal streets you get motorcycles and everything else on the pavements. It's just constant beeping and bell ringing to get you out of the way.
The thing I don't understand is that there are small cages of birds everywhere. On the street, in the trees, under stalls... I don't know if they sell them as food or pets or if they're significant for luck or something?
We did a lot of walking today as usual but I think we had enough to see and enough rests to make it not as difficult as normal. Or we're just getting used to it! We did go to McDonalds which I know was bad, but we needed food and a cold drink. They don't do anything cold. None of the fridges are ever switched on, even the beer is never cold. It's pretty annoying when it's this hot, and it seems to be getting hotter by the day. It was scorching today, I was forced to put on suncream. So McDonalds offered us ice in our drinks which we couldn't resist! Along with some chicken that wouldn't have bones in it!
We came back to the hostel for a rest and a shower but spent some time in the courtyard in the shade reading which was pleasant (that's where the picture is).
Tonight we ate at some food stalls that had chairs & tables about which were really busy. A few of the locals were taking the mick and telling us to do things that were wrong but we took it well! We had a large beer each and a noodle dish each which had in it egg, onions, chilli, sugar and I don't know what else! It was nice though and cost £3 for both of us including the beer! Definitely what we should be using to save money. It was much better than last nights £11 meal anyway.
Up early for the terracotta army tomorrow which should be exciting! We've decided to try and save some money and do it independently but I'm not looking forward to the busy buses in this heat!
