Today we went to the Summer Palace. My legs, especially my calves were aching today from the last few days walking, so I was thrilled to find that the lake was man made and everything dug out of it they'd made into a massive hill!!! It was so steep! We had to stop for a rest halfway through! At the top we had the best strawberry ice lolly ever though. The place was nice & it was really hot.
Later on we went to a night market where they had all the scorpions on sticks, big spiders on sticks, seahorses & starfish(?) on sticks, something that looked like a flying squirrel on a stick and whole fried chicks (head, feet, everything!) On the way there I'd told Ben I wanted to try a scorpion but when we got there the smaller ones (they had the big black ones as well) were still alive!! They were stuck on the sticks wiggling away so they must fry them when ordered. It put me off them right away!! Ben had some kind of waffle dessert then we found a real restaurant for food. It had quite a big menu with things on it like fish head, duck head, duck gizzard, pig feet, frog stew, donkey (sorry Mum!) and lots more. We ordered grilled beef fillet, beef in black bean sauce & fried rice. The waitress thought we were mental getting 2 beefs but we just picked something each & no way was I getting chicken again after last night! It was the best meal we've had since being in China. Really tasty. More than double what we had been paying (it was £13) but still cheap compared to home for what we got. We'd spent longer than planned at the market & eating so only got to bar street for the 2nd half of United. They had wifi so we managed to see who scored but didn't catch the goals. It looked sunny in Manchester though! We had a bottle of beer each then a cocktail each & they robbed us of £22!!!! You wouldn't pay that much at home! I guess that's what you get for going to the tourist bars so we won't make the mistake of not asking prices again. It was United's fault...
We're up in 5 hours to go to the Great Wall so I better go. Really looking forward to it though.
