Another driving day through the grasslands and high plains of Wyoming. For part of the way the highway follows the old Deadwood to Cheyene Stage Coach Route and on another part of the journey we drove through the territory once infamous for its Cattle Wars. Our target is the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park another historic hotel which was the inspiration for the Overlook Hotel in the film The Shining . The original owner was the inventor of the Stanley Steam Car.
Estes Park is a statutory town in Laramie County Colorado. A popular summer resort and the location of the headquarters for Rocky Mountains National Park, and it lies along the Big Thompson River at an elevation of 2923 metres. Estes Park had a population of about 5,858
We had our farewell dinner with Lynne and Skip the only meal which they were allowed to join in. Skip told us that we had driven over 5200 km during the whole trip. Naturally we appreciated his skill in giving us a safe comfortable ride.
