ok so after coming from remoteness of the certain areas laos and cambodia we are now back in bangkok and i can sure feel the difference. I didnt really notice going the other way but bangkok really is a busy noisy dirty money hungry city but thats not to say you cant have a good time.
On our bus from phnom phen to siem reip i had my camara stolen out of my bag while i was asleep which means that all of the photos from laos and cambodia are gone which is a real shame as i can assure you i looked awesome in all of them but oh well until i get a new one we are using the camara on chris's phone (having learnt from our mistake most are now on facebook). The same day i also left my laundry in our guest house, thats what being tired hungova and rushing for a bus does to you, i dont know what im more annoyed about.
Anyway rant over, on arriving off the bus in siem reip we got greated by the usual mob of tuk tuk drivers trying to get us to their guesthouse, so we picked one only to find out when we got there they only had a dorm which was fine but it then turned out that their 'dorm' was just a load of thin mattresses outside with mosquito nets, but for a dollar a night who cares?, the dogs were friendly. The next day we went to the temples of Ankor which is a huge area of ancient palace and temple complexes dotted round a jungle (you hire a tuk tuk for the day) and you can buy either a 1, 3 or 7 day ticket, we went for the 1. We tried to make the most of the day seeing all the main temples and some of the smaller ones, exploring the smaller ones you really do feel like indiana jones and one is actually where they filmed tomb raider. Most are just vast but one was tall as well and had 'steps' assending to 50 metres, me and chris raced up them in the 30 something degree heat, bad idea!!! i've never sweated so much in my life (i won). We spent the next just chillin and then got a bus to bangkok.
Since we saw most of the sites last time we were in bangkok, we've pretty much just been drinking this time round, i haven't gone to bed before 4 am for the last 3 nights and 6ish one night and i keep waking up with glowsticks, stickers and other strange things on my body (no drunken tatoo yet). For st. patricks day we spent most of the night in the irish pub on ko san road (backpacker central), was mostly drinking the local beers but thought i had to have one guiness so i paid the increased price and got my black necter only to find out that its 'foreign export' which means it doesnt taste quite as nice but is 8.4%.
Last night we went to the area of bangkok known as patpong with some fellow travellers, here you have two choices either the night market selling souveniers and clothes or the ping pong shows and go go bars. When first in bangkok we avoided these because we just thought they were a bit disturbing but we heard so many stories we had to check it out. The go go bars are just next level strip joints where each girl has a number on their bikini, you can pick one and 'go upstairs' the amount of old men was quite disturbing. As for the ping pong shows i'll let you use your imagination but i'll just say that women should never smoke, write, play table tennis or play darts like they do in there. And dont worry, concerned readers all of us were there only to look and not to touch.
tonight we are heading down south to ko phangnan to the infamous full moon party on the 21st, and after 5 weeks of travelling we finally get to see the sea.
chris is still trying to find someone who'll let him drive their tuk tuk but he is now also trying to cook his own noodles from the street vendors.......chris makes good noodles i was impressed.
