The flight to KL was only 1 ½ hours but it was 1am before we arrived so we were shattered. We jumped in a taxi to go to our hotel (another hour away) and we couldn't have picked a grumpier taxi driver, he didn't speak or reply to us the whole journey (perhaps it was because he didn't speak English we thought) and it didn't help that he had no idea where the hotel was. After about 50 mins he pulled over on the hard shoulder to get his SatNav out, oh did I forget to mention that it was in English! So he was blatantly not in the mood for conversation. By that stage we didn't care, it was nearing 2am and all we wanted was to sleep. But the worse was yet to come, arriving at the hotel I fell down a drain! Yep thats right, a drain, my whole leg literally disappeared into the ground! By this point blood was starting to boil, and to top it all off we got the springiest bed ever known to man! Ah... its all part of the experience.
The next few days were very eventful, on our first day we managed to cram in the Petronas Twin Towers which attached to it was a Convention Centre, a huge mall (where we convinced ourselves to buy a laptop), an aquarium and a cinema that did the BEST caramel popcorn.
Day 2 we went to KL Tower (the 4th tallest telecommunications tower in the world). We did a viewing tour and got some lovely views of the Petronas Twin Towers surrounded by skyscrapers and other landmarks. They also had a mini Zoo and F1 Simulator (which was pants!), the Zoo was great though, it was filled with all sorts of albino animals such a monkey, a tortoise and a hairless guinea pig! They also had a two headed turtle and lots of other reptiles. Ash wasn't impressed when a Zoo Keeper chased him with a 6ft snake for a photo! Just as he thought he'd got away he was lumbered with 2 huge parrots - he hates birds too, ha ha! That night we went back to Petronas Towers for dinner at Chilli's (our fave restaurant so far, they do the best burgers and Chilli/Honey Chicken!) we then went to the night market near our hotel in Chinatown and after alot of haggling came away with some goodies including a huge pile of the latest DVDs for a quid each! Overall we really liked Kuala Lumpur, its certainly an amazing place for shopping, but for us backpackers we'll have to stick to markets for now!
Next stop - Singapore!
