Day 2,
We woke up bright and earlier ready for our first full day of adventures. Walked through gothic quarter and had brekky at a highly recommended restaurant called Milk, it did not disappoint, Tim says 'best coffee ever'.
Wanting to cover as much ground as possible we opted to hire 'green bikes'. The Spanish seem to take a while to get going in the morning so very little was open at this stage.
Took our bikes and headed all along the beach front. The waterfront markets were all finally being set up. Then headed back up to the Basilica in the gothic quarter and we got to watch so traditional dancing out the front.
Then we continued all through the city enjoying all the various markets that were now in full swing.
Heading back towards La Rambla we stopped to watch a slack rope chap entertaining the crowds in one for the restaurant quads.
After dropping off our bikes, we stopped in at Black Remedy to try the local craft beers.
Now off on our way to make our 3pm booking time at the well known Sagrada Familia. This Basilica was designed by the architect Antoni Gaudi and the construction of this church began in 1882. This church is still unfinished, however the Sagrada Familia is set to be finished on the centenary of Gaudi's death in 2026.
There is not much more to say other than, WOW. This church is incredibly beautiful and the venue is run like a well-oiled machine.
We grabbed our audio tour to learn all about what Gaudi intended to portray in is nativity scene façade (birth of Christ) and the passion facade (the death of Christ).
We had bought combo tickets go up the passion tower. Hopped in the queue and went zooming to the top with popping ears. Once out the lift we had a chance to quickly glance at the city views before heading down teeny tiny spiral staircase.
Damn I'm glad we had a super slow lady in front of us or I would have been super dizzy. Definitely will be feeling my right leg for a while.
After finishing up at Sagrada Familia, there was a toy shop Tim was really keen to visit, so we headed the 3 blocks over to Cosmic (Tim's toy heaven). This place was huge, after Tim has a chance to take in all the excitement we finally got to leave.
On our way back we stopping for drinks at Dirty South a cocktail bar. Tim had some local brews which he decribed as delicious, I however had some cocktails that were rather gross!
We then decided to head back to the gothic quarter for some din dins. Now feeling slightly boozed along they way as we hadn't eaten since breakfast, we stopped at Muns and bought delish spicy chicken and pork pastry thingies. It would seem that he charged me incorrectly and we scored a free one, but I am also pretty sure we ended up with the red wine beef not pork. Oh well, you win some, you lose some.
Moseyed through gothic quarter looking for paella or churro with little success so we decided to head back toward our 'hostalin' for the paella at the restaurant around corner.
Once at the restaurant we had epic communication issues again he just ordered what we asked for. This is how it went down. Tim: 'what beers do you have?', Waiter: 'ok, one beer'. Unable to figure out was included in the mixed paella, it was ordered and we simply got to hope for the best.
We ended up with an average beer, way too sweet sangria and a paella I wish not to remember. All in all, that was an experience.
What do I remember about Barcelona, well there seemed to be dogs everywhere.
