Day3
Up at the crack of dawn, 3am for our 7am flight, tripadvisor warned us the airport in Barcelona was a bit disorganised so decided not to mess around and get there 3 hours early like they recommended.
We headed outside at 4am, expecting to see the taxi we had ordered the night before waiting for us but just a bit ahead of us we saw a young couple loading their bags into a taxi and then they were gone. There was nothing on the road..no taxi.. eeeekk. No it wasn't really that bad, we were able to hail a taxi 10 minutes later.
We headed through the airport and security relatively easy and thought maybe tripadvisor overstated the airport traffic.
However, maybe we just time our adventure well, like getting all the green lights when driving. While waiting for our plane we saw a few unfortunate peeps be turned away from their boarding gates for arriving too late.
It was a pleasant and quick flight and we got move to the emergency seats, for which Tim welcome the extra leg room.
We were off the plane and straight through the airport to catch the train. Why don't they want my passport? What about my stamp?
It was super 'fresh' when we arrived at the Zurich HB station, we headed off with our bag to find the hotel. It was 10am and were told I room wouldn't be ready until 12pm. So we ditched the bags and headed off to check out our surroundings. There was a disco down the road and it was still going off...
Feeling a little peckish we stopped at tasty bakery called John Baker - For Our Daily Bread and ate some yummy chocolate filled broche and butter bread.
Roamed the streets for a little while more. Just after checking in to our
rooms we heard some hooting, when we came out later some cyclist had been hit and was in a head brace in the ambo. We took this as a reminder to be a bit more cautious when crossing the roads. Trams cars and cyclist are everywhere.
The hotel chap gave us directions to old town and said we could take the hotel bikes for free.
Tim had mentioned a few times before we left that he that there were some nice frolf course in Zurich. Unbeknownst to he had actually packed two discs, in the hopes to play a round or two. Being Sunday the shops were closed I figured it wouldn't be to bad he played a round. We took the bikes to see to see the sights and headed off to his park.
We riding around the park we found some randoms playing, so he got to join in. Just as they were warning us about nettles in this area, I seem almost eager when then I stepped into them.. Not fun!
After his game, we rode all the way to old town along the riverfront we were hit with an epic stench of weed and paint. Looked down and saw an amazing park full of people skateboarding and drink and stray painting some street art. Looks like on a warm summer day they go swimming in the river. This seemed to be an incredible party area.
Got to old town and rode along the river, it was so pretty, with so many clocks. Even in such a touristy area the shops where closed but we sat down to watch a mime entertaining the restaurant crowds.
Heading back on our bikes, popped in at Beetnut some alternative raw food joint for some (warm) beers.
Went out for dinner at highly rated place on trip advisor. Well it was a bit average.. we ordered the burgers, that was about as much as we could understand.
After dinner we headed back towards our hotel, we are clearly in northbridge equivalent type of area (maybe even San Fran's tenderloin), the frequency of the sex shops are a good indicator. Ahaha. Our surroundings were starting to get real sketchy and luckily we were shattered so we headed to bed just after 9pm.
