Today, we decided to go to Hong Kong island which is the home of Stanley Market filled with bargains, Hong Kong is actually composed of several islands, the main island is called New Territories. The other islands is Airport island which is actually a man-made island so Hong Kong have somewhere to build airport on and a historic island called Lantau
So we got a tube to Hong Kong Island. The tube was so clean and I can tell Hong Kong is obsessed with the hygiene because they spray sanitizers on the escalators hand rails every few hours. We got off and caught a bus to Stanley Market, the views were picturesque and the driver recognising that we are tourists by our inability to quickly identify the correct change needed were happy to point out few of sights.
The sights were stunning because the bus route involves climbing over a hill and we can see all of the buildings, the beach and disturbingly enough a graveyard suspended on the rolling hill. At least the mourners have something nice to look at while mourning.
We got off and quickly disappeared into the fanatic crowds. There are many different shops and we spent loads (China were very kind to our budget and we had a bit of money to spare) I won't revealed what I personally bought but we got some gifts for our families back home and we discovered a lovely beach hiding behind the market, I can't see Portabello Market hiding a beach back home!
We got on some coastal rocks and took some photos before heading back to the market to dig even deeper holes in our pockets. The markets were pretty much identical to back home, expect that there is a proper gadget store and I spent a while there examining the latest gadgets which involve a cool spy pen. We headed back and to our (boys) horror, the girls suggested going to the Ladies Street. I am sure you all can guess by the name that what the street holds....
Yep, more markets but I managed to not to spend anything, the Ladies Street were bit of a poor version of Stanley Market, there were a dizzyingly range of goods available but at cheaper prices and they were bit more corny than Stanley Market, however I managed to make it through without slipping into coma from boredom of all day shopping. It is sprawled all over four blocks and there is even more to go but we gave up and went back to the hostel.
On the way, we bumped into a deaf couple with a cheeky daughter that we spent a while happily chatting. They thought we were Americans at first because Sara was wearing an American top!

Margaret Worrell I've got the feel of Hong Kong from your account. Can't get the vision of the graveyard on the hill out of my mind. Must be my age. Please continue on! Love to all Gran x
