I woke up with excitement, the plan for the day is a tour to Great Wall of China, and we got in the coach after a hurried breakfast and an introduction with our tour guide who is called Echo which I thought were cool. We got in a minibus and had a two hour journey to the Great Wall which is lovely because we get to see more of rural China rather than a packed city filled with motorist's hell bent on ending someone's life with a risky overtaking manoeuvre that would get my driving examiner mentally scarred for the life...
We arrived and were instructed to walk from gatehouse no.6 to gatehouse no.20 and back in a three hour frame. We got on the wall by using ski-lift where I had a very tempting thought to push Sara off to save myself from her nagging!
We got on the wall and started our walk with lots of rests and taking pictures, it got to a point where Sara and Charlene due to her short legs got too tired from having to climb loads of the steps so they stopped to gatehouse no.14, the sensible move for us the boys would be to rest as well but we saw the gatehouse no.20 up ahead high in the sky looking very imposing , we then suffered from an attack of egoism and eagerness to provide who is the alpha male so we pushed on. What a mistake...
We rushed through to gatehouse no.19 which by the time when the final steps leading to gatehouse no.20 was so steep and high up the sky that an airplane would have to swerve to avoid it, we were literally crawling on our knees and I were hugging the wall and pulling myself up when I reached the gatehouse no.20 and I threw myself to a corner and almost cried from the sheer exhaustion, we eventually made our way back with the original gatehouse which at the point, my legs were shaking horribly. We were treated to a lukewarm Chinese buffet which we made friends with Dutch travellers who was in China to study medicine ( Ashley did the most of the talking) then we went to back to our hostel
Upon arriving back at our hostel, the sky which was heavily clouded from the pollution had suddenly cleared and sweltering sun had come through. It were later discovered that we conquered the Great Wall in thirty three degrees. As quoted by Sara "If that doesn't make me lose weight I don't know what will!"
