On returning from the airport we chilled out at our hostel for a few hours before meeting up with Shelby, a girl we had met in the Whitsundays. Thankfully she knew a great little cafe, The Circus in Mt Eden where we were staying so we enjoyed a lovely catch up with her whilst drinking coffee and treating ourselves to a slice of chocolate cake; a true luxury when travelling! The evening was topped off with a drive up to the top of Mt Eden with Geordie John, a great guy we had met from the hostel. As you can see from the pictures, amazing views!
The next day there was a change of plan and Rodger with the sailing boat called the hostel and told us we could go out for a few days with him. Ash had seen the advert for this trip on the hostel noticeboard and it looked really good and cheap...a travellers dream. We were soon to find out why....
Around midday Rodger picked us up from the hostel after running around like headless chickens in the morning getting water and supplies for the trip. We then picked up Kristina, a friendly Danish girl from in town and headed to the harbour were we would get the boat. From loading up the tender with food and supplies we could all tell that Rodger did not do this for pleasure. He seemed to tell us all off at some point or other between getting the row boat out to setting up the sail once we were aboard!! Funny in the end but I did feel abit like a school kid doing wrong once or twice. The best bit was when he offered us a cup of tea after we had gone to shore to one of the islands to take a walk. He soon realised he had forgotten the tea bags. Things only got worse when he then told us he had forgot the pasta too for tea, nightmare! Rather than opting for tuna in tomato sauce with weetabix we went for tuna sandwiches instead. A fun evening had bny all!
The following day was abit more pleasant although Rodger only decided to let us use the toilet around 10am. Kristina and I were bursting!! We anchored in Browns Bay and Ash rowed us to shore again whilst we chilled on the beach for an hour or so giving us a break from Rodger. The scenery really did make up for the company and it was really interesting chatting to Kristina about Denmark. As we arrived at Shelbys thatr evening we felt like we were staying at the Ritz. She cooked us chicken with vegetables and fresh bread...just what we needed! Thank god for travel buddies. Thank you Shelby for saving our day!
