Yesterday and today (Monday 8/3 and Tuesday 9/3) we made a road trip to Sedona and the Grand Canyon. Our day started at 5h15 in the morning were we had our simulator at Falcon Field to practice the patterns (circuits around the airport where you practice takeoffs and landings). We finished at about 10h30 after which we went back home to have a quick snack, prepare our luggage and start a fabulous adventure.
We travelled with 5 people: Tom, Luc, Justin, Raphaël and me. We headed for 2h30 towards Sedona which lies at about 5000 feet of altitude (1.5km). We took a break at the local Mc Donalds (which requires a blue logo - Sedona color policies as to match the landscape) and continued for a trail near Cathedral Mountain where we watched the sunset together. It was truly amazing. During the evening twilight, we headed towards Grand Canyon by having a quick tankstop at Falgstaff (ski station in Arizona, yes it was cold and snowy out there!) and had our evening meal at Williams. And guess what? We accidentally arrived on the world famous Road 66!
We continued for about 1h15 Northwards to arrive at Grand Canyon Village at 11 o'clock in the evening. We still did a quick stop to watch the amazing nightsky. You could see the Milky Way with your naked eye!
We went to sleep after midnight and woke up at 5h50 to watch the sunrise at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. Unfortunately, it was pretty windy out there (ice cold as well) and some clouds were blocking the sun itself. We had breakfast and took the bus towards the beginpoint of the South Keibab Trail (very famous for it's fantastic view). We arrived at about a quarter of the trail after which we turned back. The total trail is about 14km long going from 7000ft altitudd down to 1500ft. Don't forget that once you're down, you still need to get back up!
After our trail we headed back home. A fabulous adventure full of memories!
