Now then!
From Queenstown we headed in a south-easterly direction to Dunedin. It took us like 5 hours, but again it was a magnificently scenic route. So after the lovely drive we arrived in Dunedin in the early evening and settled in to our hostel. It was a pretty sweet place. From the outside it looked like a scratty office block, but inside it was like a renevated hotel.
The next day we decided to check the place out. There's not a lot to do in Dunedin. We browsed the shops and supermarkets, and found the cadbury factory, which we thought might be fun to take a tour of. So we bought our tickets and went around the factory. It was kinda cool but after the first ten minutes it lost its novelty a bit. We did get free chocolate though, and we did get to wear some pretty jazzy head gear on account of the health and safety issues lol. That night we went out with a couple of girls we met at the hostel, and when we came back we sat in the room and talked (quietly!) on the floor. However, a couple of the other roomates didn't like our little social gathering and got pretty pissed off, for which we apologised, yet carried on talking :p
It then got to the point where one person, (a female in the all boys dorm who had a certain masculine air about them, and massive hairy arms) got super pissed and tried dragging one of the girls out. She didn't get very far though. Ben told her that if she had a problem she should go see the management. So she did just that. The owner of the place wasn't too bothered, just told us to keep it down a bit. It was pretty funny at the time.
So that pretty much sums up Dunedin. Kinda boring but fun nonetheless.
In the morning we packed our things and set our sights for our final stop in New Zealand - Christchurch. We found a hostel in our BBH guide for $16 a night, so we thought bargain! Upon arrival we found the place to be a dump. We stayed there the one night and quickly went round the corner to a much nicer place, which had a piano, to Ben's immense pleasure.
Not being bothered to do too much exploring straight away, we found the nearest cinema and kicked back to a pretty decent film (21). Most of our days were spent exploring the city and taking photos, doing a bit of shopping and just chilling in the hostel. We met a couple of Irish girls and played a card game called grass. Basically your a drug dealer and you have to make a load of money. It was pretty fun.
The nightlife didn't seem that appealing to us, so we didn't bother wasting any money on a rubbish night. Like Dunedin, Christchurch didn't have too much to offer us, and we were all looking forward to getting to Sydney, where we would meet Adam and Rick.
Bring on the OZ!
