Phew this place smells bad!!! We are in Rotorua, which is famous for its geothermal activity, such as geysers and bubbling mud pools!! We left Mercury Bay too early this morning at 7.30am, and stopped in a little town for hot chocolate and cakes!! (its all we do these days!) Then we drove for a bit more until we reached Karangahake Scenic Reserve. Here we went on some crazy walks along railway tracks through pitch black caves, and over swing bridges!! All of that was made even more fun by the fact that we weren't allowed torches, as it would ruin the fun, so we stumbled along for hours!!! After that we stopped for lunch in a town called MutaMuta, otherwise known as Hobbiton, due to the Lord of The Rings set being based nearby. We took pictures with Gollum, ate some more food, and then moved onto Rotorua. We are staying in Hot Rock backpackers, which isn't the best hostel we've stayed in (12 sharing one bathroom is never good!), but it'll do!! We got changed quickly and then went Zorbing!! It was so much fun!! Its basically where you get put inside a huge rubber ball filled with water, and then pushed down a massive hilll, and you go tumbling head over heels all the way until you reach the bottom!! Great fun - even if it was over in 30 seconds!! That evening we went to Tamaki Maori Village for a concert evening. We had to nominate one male from our bus to be the chief - of course it had to be Gerald!! The chiefs then had to accept or decline a challenge from the warriors, before everyone was allowed to enter their village. After that we all had a wander around, and saw how the Maori people lived, before watching a show where they sang and danced traditional songs. Then it came to the last, and best part of the evening....we all sat down for a huge Hangi feast, which was meat and vegetables cooked in a fire under the ground, and it was delicious!! :D
