We made it to Auckland yesterday evening after a bit of an ordeal at the airport!! We got up bright an early yesterday and caught the bus to Sydney Airport at 6.30am. When we got there we queued up to check in for about 30mins, and when we got to the desk we found out our flight was actually leaving 2 hours later than we thought (we'd read the tickets wrongly!!) and so it turns out that we were 5 hours early for the flight!! This meant we couldnt actually check-in until 3 hours before, so we passed the time by eating crispy creme doughnuts, and then queued up again 2 hours later!! We finally made it onto the plane (by this time we'd also manage to eat a Wagamumas for breakfast!) and arrived in Auckland later that evening. We caught a bus from the airport and checked into Queen Street Backpackers, which is like something out of the 70s, and smells like old people, but is actually quite nice and homely! As we'd eaten non-stop all day there was no need for dinner, and thus no need to actually leave the room for the rest of the evening!! :)
Today we had a well deserved lie in (after yesterdays ordeal!) and got up around 9am, before heading out for a free Stray bus tour of Auckland. Our first stop on the bus was Skycity, which is a huge tower (the needle shaped building in the picture), and one of the guys won a jump from the top of the tower, so we all watched as he hurled himself from the top!! After that we went to One Tree Hill, where the inspiration for the famous U2 song came from, and had a wander around, took in the views and all that!! Then we stopped off at a little pub for lunch, and had some yummy potato wedges!! :D Our last stop of the day was at the Auckland Harbour Bridge, where we got harnessed up and walked out under the bridge to the centre to watch a few crazy people do a bungy jump, which was good fun but very very cold!!! We made it back to the hostel by about 5pm and then ventured out to try and find somewhere to eat, this proved the biggest mission so far, and we wandered for what seemed like hours before settling with a little cafe, which wasnt great!! As a result, Wiss decided she didnt like her chips much, but instead of throwing them away we donated them to a homeless man who seemed very happy with them!! We went to bed that night knowing we'd done a good deed for the world!
