Well, tomorrow is my last day here at Klipkop. I take off early sunday morning to meet up with the Baz Bus (check it out at www.bazbus.com). I'm in the Drakensburg Mountains for 4 days. Which should be really cool. There is a world hertiage site near by with San rock paintings which is wicked!! I'm going to do some hiking, rock climbing, horseback riding, and plenty of vegging :) After that I'm heading to Cape Town, once again on the Baz Bus, with madatory overnight stops in Durban and Port Elizibeth where I'm just going to relax at the hostels until I get to Cape Town where I plan on checking out markets, surfing and climbing table mountain!
I also just got some amazing news. A big part of my trip was fundraising so that I could afford to do all of the volunteer work that I'm doing (its costs to volunteer), and my grandmother just managed to get me a pretty big sponsor!!! Super Gramma I should say! So, hopefully now if all of my visas woirk out I will be going to Kenya for 2 weeks to volunteer at an orphanage!! YAY!!!
The last 2 days Claire and I were at a bird rehabilitation center a few hours from Klipkop. They used to work right out of Klipkop but for a few reasons had to relocate. We picked up an eagle on the way to deliver to them. He was a big fella...I'll add pics soon. I got to hold an eagle, feed the birds, play with them, repair and build enclosures etc. It was gerat! Very hands on. We also brought back with us 11 tortoises that we released throughout the reserve shortly after returning to Klipkop this afternoon....very rewarding! Some of them were smaller, but some of them were between 90 and 100 pounds! We loaded them in the back of the "buckie" (pick-up) and drove to Klipkop like this (with Claire in the back because one was a little eager to get out!).
The new volunteers arrived today. So weird. I feel like just yesterday that was me!! And yet here I am, one month later, taking off once again for the next leg of this crazy adventure!
