Tuesday morning I got pooped on by a bird while waiting for the tram. We were all hyped up ready to go to the festival for the first day of our workshop. The sun was shining. We were early. And a bird pooped, splatted on my shoulder. Heather and I had water and tissues, so we did what we could to make me presentable.
Also noticed while making breakfast that our new roommate had made herself comfortable in Prague by getting a few bottles of liquor and stocking them in the fridge.
We had to run around the festival grounds in the am to scavenge for our workshop space setup. Very different than having a conference room with a powerpoint and hotel staff. It was quite humid and buggy too. Day 1 of the workshop went really well. We had just under 50 sign up, about half that came, and some new ones came who hadn't signed up. We had representation from 8 countries: Czech republic, Finland, Hong Kong, Ireland, Scotland, USA, Mexico, Spain. Good mix of age and gender too.
We lined up for the lunch bell after our workshop around noon. They had 3 options: standard lunch, light lunch, or veggie lunch. They walked you in color coordinated lines all the way through the dining hall and handed you a bag at the end of the line. It was actually better than expected, but still a bit disappointing.
There are 3 pools on site - small medium and large. The large one has a playground slide rigged up on a tree that goes into the pool. The pools are all man-made, with wooden structures and tarps nailed into the wooden frame, resting on sand. One of the pools was broken by the end of the first day already, because the sand wore through the tarp. The tarps are also dark instead of light, which makes it difficult for the guards to see.
There was a Jesus flash mob. I have never seen that before either. They will do it every morning as people enter the festival grounds. "I love Jesus - echo - I love Jesus, yes I do - echo- up with Jesus down with sin.
One of our vloggers didn't show up so Heather and I went around asking people the question of the day and filming their response. Lots of my footage made the final cuts so I'll be on the big screen at night at general performances. MOM I'm famous!
We had our afternoon workshop that afternoon. It was full - 15 women. They set us in a tent shared with country reps, so it was noisy and hard to hear. No chairs or anything, so we worked it on the ground and had a global café setup. The young girls were really inspirational and I think they had a good time.
There are porta-potties all over the grounds. They are run by toi-toi and are way nicer than anything you've seen in the states. They have running water and everything. Yet some girls still stick their used lady pads in the piping on the floor of the stalls…smh
Tuesday night Heather and I hosted a dinner for our friends. We made pasta, had some fruit and cheese out and asked everyone to bring beverages. We also had tons of different chocolate. About 30 people showed up, ate and drank everything, and stayed late so I think they had a good time. It was fun to take care of everybody who was working so hard. And it was fun to show off the awesome apartment.
