We are now back on the road after our rest and recouperation both in Brisbane for Tony with his mate Don and me in Perth with the girls and the grandies. We both had a wonderful time catching up with family and friends but the intrepid travellers must move on.
Our first stop, after looping around through Woodford and Ipswich, was at Frenches Creek with Tony's niece Sue and nephews Lou and Harry and Harry's wife Treena on Treena's farm. We had 3 glorious days seeing the sights, tasting some wines at a nearby winery and sharing our wine purchases each evening with some lively discussion and past family stories.
We then moved on to Warwick and were fortunate to spend 3 days with David and Maria. David is brother of a good friend of the family, Penny. During this time we went to Queen Mary Falls, had lunch at a lovely pub in Yangan, visited the old and partly restored homestead of Glengallen (above photo) and the Goomburra National Park. We walked to Mt Castle lookout with its spectacular views to Brisbane.
From Warwick we travelled to a beautiful free camp on the banks of the Dalrymple River in Allora. All was fantastic until just on sundown when we were invaded by zillions of midgies. The next morning. after removing the midgies that had gathered on the windscreen we drove over to Pittsworth and on to Jondaryan woolshed. This wooshed is the largest working sheep station and woolshed in the southern hemisphere with 52 shearing stands. The woolshed also is used for dances and functions. Have a look at the photos to get a better idea of what a fabulous place this is. We met Penny and Daveena for lunch here and then toured the grounds - a fantastic collection of yesteryear with the schoolroom, the blacksmith, the tea and damper shed and a museum of old farming equipment and vehicles.
We spent the evening at a free camping spot - Oakey Creek. The worst prickles we have ever come across. Tony and I spent heaps of time making sure we didn't take any with us in our shoes, the car or the van.
After driving into Dalby and then onto Moonie we headed for Goondiwindi. The aim was to travel south over the border into NSW then back into Queensland at Texas so we could make sure we had television to watch Bathurst......of course!
Tomorrow we head back into NSW for the next 6 weeks having spent over 4 months in Queensland. Hopefully the roads will be better because they have been murder.
