Our stay in Darwin was only 4 days but we packed as much in as we could. We stayed at the Oasis Tourist Park in Virginia, about 5 minutes from Palmerston and about 25 kms from Darwin.
Fran and Bert went into the centre of Darwin and also visited the Aircraft museum. Fran even had a seat in the B52 which is in the hanger there. After we had the Beema serviced we also went into the centre of Darwin and the next day visited the fisherman's harbour and Stokes Harbour (above) for a barra, chips and salad lunch. At the end of each day we reminisced about our adventures over a drink and all agreed that our Darwin experience was great even if it did stretch the budget a bit.....accommodation in Darwin is very expensive.
We are now back in Adelaide River and have taken up residence at Mt Bundy Station, a working station on the outskirts of Adelaide River. We would recommend this place to anyone. It is fantastic with its brahman cattle, buffalo, horses, peacocks and pea hens and many travellers doing just what we are doing.....travelling and enjoying life.
The owners hail from Broomehill so we have an affiliation with fellow West Aussies. Besides, they are great hosts who have tried to give everyone the best time. They have happy hours down by the campfire (no fires at the moment as it's too hot) and hamburgers and entertainment on Friday nights.
We have spent every day in the pool and making the most of our swims as tomorrow we head back south to Katherine and then further south to Daly Waters and Three Ways. After which we will be trekking east to sunny Queensland.
Stay tuned for the next episode of our journey.
