Oh my goodness, sailing in the Yasawa (Fijian) islands, it is everything I imagined and more. This place is heavenly.
Andrew has suggested I rephrase the above as it may turn into a third rate romantic novel! Had a lovely dinner on board last night as we sailed past the island on which they filmed Castaway with Tom Hanks. Crystal clear water and bluer than blue skies.
Tuesday has been spent on the beach where they filmed Castaway. As the picture shows the boat we are on reversed up and tied up to a coconut tree where it has stayed quite happily all day. We have swum, snorkelled, kayaked and paddle boarded all day so are looking forward to our traditional Fijian meal cooked over stones buried in the ground just behind the beach.
A little added flavour is that we have a wedding on the beach this evening at which the ship’s captain is officiating and the wedding party will join us for our meal later.
Meal was lovely and local village came and did the traditional songs and dances - all very nice. You expect a bit of phoneyness in these things but didn’t see it here. Everyone we see seems genuinely happy. The crew have worked all day getting the stuff ashore for our meals and drinks but the one thing you heard all day was real laughter. Before and after the evening we sat with the crew who played guitars along with the captain and sang spontaneously helped by their home made cava which we were told is mildly hallucinogenic and can be used as an anaesthetic. I think that bit was made up!!
Special evening - fast asleep as heads touched pillows.
