Anna's Big Trip
I'm now in Split (Croatia), so can somebody please tell my dad that, my phone doesn't work here. Just so he doesn't freak! Anyways, there is something so calming about being on the coast. Its very beautiful, clean and shining here. Most of the roads and sidewalks are white marble or tile, which has a stunning effect on the feeling of the city. Yesterday I traveled all day. Started on a train from Budapest to Zagreb, the capitol of Croatia early in the morning. I was in Zagreb for about an hour. It seemed like a fun place to check out but I knew that I wanted to see Split, Hvar and Dubruvnik more, so I hopped on the next available train to Split. It would have seemed like a long day of traveling, however the train ride to Split turned out to be quite scenic. I saw a lot of mountains and rivers along the way. Small houses and villages with red tile roofs were dotted along the coutryside. I got into Split at about 9pm and was met by several women asking if I needed a place to stay. This is what I was counting on. I went with one of the younger ones that could speak English fairly well to check out her Aunt's place. She owns a hostel too, which I will stay in tonight (cheaper). The room is great, I get my own room (with a lock), it is on the sixth floor with a cute view of the tops of the buildings in Old Town (inside the palace walls), and the lady is really nice. This morning I walked around the Old Town/Palace and checked out their daily market. It is huge! Whole sections dedicated to fresh seafood, vegetables, fruits, clothes, accessories, cheeses and dried meat. When I was walking around, this guy tried to pick-pocket me twice! Luckly he wasn't that good (I felt him) and even if he was good, all my stuff was in my pouch under my pants. I got a little paranoid after that and headed back here until I meet the lady who owns the hostel to transfer my stuff. I will be going to Hvar tomorrow and then Dubruvnik after that. Hopefully I can get over to Rome before that Cultural week is over (thanks Kyle), but we will see. Thanks again for all your messages! I get super excited to check them whenever I can. Love you all.
