96- Up nice and early with a few sore heads going round we stopped at the Bushman's Centre where we got an insight into how people made a living on the coast with helicopter deer recovery, which is basically a guy jumping out of a helicopter to catch a deer so they can be farmed. We also got a glimpse of the biggest pig we've ever seen who is also trained to sit..... Another random place. On to Franz Josef. Sharing with the 2 sarahs again it was an early night as we prepared for an 8 hour glacier hike in the morning.
97- Im leaving this 1 for D to write something in.....and just finally got round to it. Anyway, got up early and walked round to the Hiking place. Got kitted up with waterproofs, hat and gloves, some seriously massive boots and a stylish red bumbag with our spikes in for the bottom of our boots. Headed out to the Glacier where we had to walk about hour just to get to the bottom of the bloody thing! Put on our spikes and headed up onto the ice. Luckily got a really good day for it because don't think I could have done it in the rain. It was definately an experience with brilliant views of some of the mountains. Anthony loving the pic axe that we all had been given!! Had to squeeze through some really tight gaps in the ice which at some points was touch and go (they were tiny). And there was one point were Anthony trying to pose for a photo stepped onto what he thought was ice but was actually water and nearly went ended up going straight through! Long day but good fun. After went back to the hostel and headed to the hostel bar for a few drinks with everyone. Off to Wanika tomorrow.
