Day 20
Woke up about 11am to get our boat from Phi Phi to Phuket. Journey was ok - we had pre-booked a hostel this time in Phuket town so went straight there by tuk-tuk. The hostel was so nice! Well nice if we were comparing it to the one we had just had in Phi Phi. It was clean, tidy, had hot water and a TV but most of all it was CHEAP - about GBP2.50 each!
Once settled we went in search for food, found it, got a few drinks to take back to the room and chilled out before we conked out (it was night time by this point by the way!).
Leaving in the morning to head to Patong for some more beach time as the town area is pretty limited for things to do.
Day 21
Left about 11am after checking out and got a tuk-tuk to our new hostel, Bodega which turned out to be absolutely brilliant! It was like you were staying in the Ritz or something. For a 5 quid a night you had your own balcony, fridge-freezer, air-con, TV and loads more and it was so clean you could have eaten off of the floor!
The beach was a 2 minute walk from Bodega so we headed there pretty much straight away. Went in the sea, played frisbee and sunbathed all afternoon. Anth has been teaching me how to swim properly rather than just sort of 'bob' and it really is coming on now!
At night we went to the bar area in Bodega and ended up getting pretty sloshed! Well I did anyway - for once Anth was on the ball! We had such a good night the two Thai lads, Ra and Aman, who worked behind the bar are the friendliest people ever! They were giving us happy hour prices all night and loads of free shots! (This is why I was so tonked - I hate shots but felt to bad to say no because they were giving them away free so the black rum and tequila went straight to my head!).
There were a couple of other backpackers out to so the six of us ended up having an ace night.
Our first impression of Phuket (if not a little blurry) is that we love, love, love it!
Day 22
Beach day! Not much to report. Got up mid-morning feeling a bit groggy and just went straight to the beach and lay there all afternoon.
At night we went to the supermarket (which is ace by the way) to get some grub and a couple more drinks.
Day 23
Ha just read yesterdays blog! Beached it up and chilled the hell out.
Only one other thing to report today and that is we went out for lunch to a small restaurant. I ordered some American fried rice which is basically boiled rice with an egg on top (only I didn't realise this until after it arrived on the table). Anyway I don't egg so I took it off to pass it to Anth only to find this humungous hair in it - GROSE!!!! Awww I'm not kidding this thing was braided and all sorts - that put right off BIGTIME - I didn't get anything else to eat in there and told them not to bother bringing me another one out! Thank god for McDonalds is all I can say because we headed there straight after that incident.......
Day 24
As it was out last full day in Phuket today we decided to go and see another beach in the area, Kata Beach.
This one was even more beautiful than the last with pure white sand, clear water and hardly any people. Stayed there most of the afternoon.
At night went to the bar again and had a few more drinks and a couple of free shots again. Ra and Aman are so nice, properly chilled out dudes. They gave us loads of tips of where to go around Thailand, drew us a map and everything!
Tomorrow we leave Phuket to head to Bangkok to extend our visas.....
Day 25
Left Bodega at 12ish knowing that if we ever come back we will be going there! Aman came out to say bye to us (how sweet!) and we headed back into Phuket town to find the bus station.
Once we arrived we found that we had a seven hour wait until the bus to Bangkok so with this in mind we headed off to find a supermarket to get some grub for the trip.
About an hour after walking around (backpacks in tow, which weigh a ton and seem to weigh even more in the boiling hot sun) we found the supermarket got a load of stuff and headed back to the station. This time it only took us 10 minutes to get back to the station because we realised that we had actually just walked in a huge loop the long way round, good one!
The rest of the time we just sat at the station, melting away in the heat. The bus finally arrived and when we got on we were like 'oooh this is posh!' You got free pillows, blankets, water and a cake which was horrible but never-the-less it was FREE!
The bus journey was 11hours long but was ok and I slept quite well. Anth says he didn't but he always says that! He looked sound asleep when I looked at him haha........
