Day 54 -
Once we left Kanchanaburi we headed back to Bangkok for one night before we leave for Ko Chang tomorrow. I don't know how long we were traveling for but we were really tired once we got back to Bangkok, must be all the hard work we've put in over the past few days, so we just got a bite to eat and went to bed! We did try and book tickets to see the New Twilight movie but they were full up (boo!).
Day 55 -
An early start today - too early if you ask me! We wake up at 6:30am as we are getting picked up from across the road at 7am to begin our 8 hour bus journey to Ko chang.
The bus's air conditioning doesn't seem to be working which makes the bus ride seem even longer and very tedious. Eventually we reach the ferry terminal where we have to catch an boat to the island which takes about 1 hour.
Once we arrive on Ko Chang, about 3 million people get into a taxi truck that can hold about 10 people, luggage included!
The roads here are really bendy and windy and up and down, everyone is holding for dear life! Anth and I are one of the last people to get dropped off by the taxi but just before we do, a big fat heffer tries to get his bag from the roof of the truck and manages to boot me one (accidentally of course but still!) right in the leg and nearly the head! The lad was very apologetic and whilst I graviously accepted his apology I was still thinking p**** Why do things like this always happen to me!?
Then to top it off, when Anth and I arrive at our new accommodation, the Thai landlord noticed that I had a mosquito on my head and gave me an almighty happy slap to kill the little fecker, nearly knocking me out ha!!
Now, our accommodation, where do I begin? Hovel, slum, dump, haven for insects and frogs - and these are just the nice ways to describe it! Oh my god!! It was horrible! Nothing like the picturesque bungalow overlooking the ocean with palm trees and such as the brochure had described!
Firstly, there was a building site directly behind our 'bungalow' (shanty would be better terminology). Secondly, there was no beach in site. Thirdly and most importantly, there was no roof! Well a bad attempt at a thatched one I suppose you could call it, if you stood on the bed (and I use the term 'bed' lightly, believe me) you could have poked your head out of the 'roof' in numerous places. Fourthly, the mosquito net or should I say mosquito rope mesh, I'll say no more. Last but certainly not least, the whole place was covered with ants, bugs, spiders and there was yet another frog in our bathroom!
No, no, no! Of the all the places that we have stayed and very few have been 'Kay' clean this was definitely the worse and even Anthony agreed with me (so it must have been bad!). We had so many bites already and the thought of sleeping practically outside with no protection at all was not something we were willing to do!
On that note, we rang the TAT Office who we'd booked through to complain. When the man asked what the problem was I didn't know where to begin so just answered "to be honest, it's a dump". He didn't bother arguing back (I reckon he knew it was and sent us there to make money) and said he would move us but we would have to spend one night there, nooooooooooo!
That night we went to bed with our trousers, jumpers and socks on. we got well inside our sleep sheets with the tops buttoned up so that we were firmly cocooned and lit about six mosquito coils and placed them all around us. If anyone had walked in on us sleeping they would have thought that there was some sort of ritual taking place - six incense sticks burning around two body bags...
Day 56 -
We woke in the morning and I had been bitten - on the face! Huh that's just typical of those mozzies they never go near your face when there's a juicy bingo wing or cankle to chow down on but as they were inaccessible the flying bloodsuckers have to get their hit elsewhere!
As soon as we were up and I had had my 10 minute moan about my swollen cheek, we headed to our new accommodation which turned out to be a million times better than the last.
We were now right in the centre of all of the bars and restaurants and only minutes away from the beach not that any of this mattered because we didn't do anything apart from watch TV for the remaining time that we had in Ko Chang! I mean we did NOTHING!
The dates 19 November 09 to 24 November 09 are a blur to Anth and I. If anyone asks what did we do on our travels between days 57 to 63 we would say 'nothing' and we wouldn't be lying!
The only thing that is possibly worth mentioning is that we did take Anthony's dreads out as they were starting to itch and wrapped up in the middle of one of them was a dead beetle! Ew! God knows what is in mine!
