Day 8 - Airport Day
Today we were leaving India, woop! Singapore here we come!! Today was just a travel day really so not much to report. We had a 6 hour drive from Jaipur back to Delhi Airport. As we were early getting to the airport, Ragu, our driver asked us do we want to back to Connaught Place for something to eat, 'er no, not in this life mate' was our response! So we just headed to the airport and waited around for another 5/6 hours. Boring really, surprisingly, Delhi Airport has naff all to do so we just sat on uncomfortable chairs waiting......
Day 9 - Arriving in Singapore
We were travelling through the night from Delhi to Singapore so that was good as we wouldn't get so jet lagged.
We flew with Singapore Airlines and they are absolutely brilliant. Honestly we felt like first class. You got a menu to chose which THREE COURSE meal you would like, loads of films to watch, all new releases too and games to play. It was ace haha the best part of our trip so far!
We arrived in Singapore at 7:30am and spent about an hour in the airport getting a MacDonalds for breakfast and admiring how clean the airport was!
We got the metrolink too our pre-booked hostel which was in Chinatown. Singapore is so clean!! No litter, dirt, grime freakin rubble anywhere!! We love it already!
We found our hostel pretty much straight away once we were off the Metro and it was right in the centre of Chinatown by a really big market selling all sorts of Chinese foods, the smell was to die for!
This time we got a dormitory to save a bit of money and surprisingly it was not as bad as what we thought it would be (I'm sure they can be!). It was really clean and tidy and the bathroom was just as good. It must have been up to standard because Kay used the shower without wearing socks!
We wanted to find some cheap clothes so it was suggested to us that we head to Bogis Market which is basically this humongous market selling all sorts. The fresh fruit stalls we massive and sold all sorts of things we had never seen. The cake stalls as well mmmmmm....
We got a couple of things but now started to realise that Singapore is quite expensive, even the market wasn't really cheap.
At night we decided to go to Night Safari. Basically a zoo but you go at night time and have a tour on shuttle bus around the area. It was ok, but we don't see the point of it. You aren't allowed to use the flash on your camera so all of our pictures have come out black! Haha bit of a rip off I suppose. For a Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream it was GBP9.00!!!!!
After I long day we headed back to the dormitory which was now quite full of people sleeping so we had to be quiet. Why is it when you have to be quiet you start laughing loads? Haha Anth was making me laugh saying how funny would it be if somebody farted, god we are so childish.....
Day 10 - Sentosa Island
We had read somewhere that Sentosa Island (which is basically an amusement island) had a beach so we decided to head there. We wanted a cheap day beacuse yesterday we had probably spent about GBP50.00 yesterday. So we decided to got to the supermarket and get sandwich material for a picninc on the beach.
Oh my god! The price of food is unreal! A bag of lettuce was about GBP4.00, a large bottle of Coke, GBP6.00, bread was about GBP2.50!! We couldn't believe it! Well we couldn't starve and eating out would have probably been dearer so we ended up spnding about GBP35.00 on basic sandwich stuff and a couple of bags of crisps! We just seem to be getting robbed wherever we go!
Kay needed a new pair of sandals too so we nipped back to Bogis Market to get some (if only I knew then what I know now - KILLER SANDALS!)
You had to get a monorail over to the Island which cost SGD3.00 each. The island looked really pretty and we headed straight to the beach and ate our sandwiches.
As the Island was an amusement area, we decided to go on a couple of rides, 4D Cinema and Extreme Log Ride. The cinema was really good but the Log Ride was brilliant! It was one of those stimulation rides. I thought Anth was going to take off he was laughing so much and then that was making me laugh even more haha it was really fun!
We spent most of the day at the island, just walking around, etc. Headed back into Chinatown and went for a few drinks. Again really expensive, I think we got about 6/7 drinks between us and the bill was already on GBP38.00! We didn't realise when we entered but the bar was a kareoke bar and we kept being asked to sing! Next thing we know, the manager, Joseline, comes and basically sits with us, grabs the mic and started singing to us. I think she fancied Anth. She got him another microphone trying to get him to do a duet with her. Kay was like 'go on Anth you love singing go on, go on' haha he was secretly kicking me under the table!
Now being a little bit tipsy we were on the hunt for food (again!). We found this really nice restaurant for GBP8.00 per person for an all you can eat buffet except you cooked your own food! Each table had its own hot plate and there was a huge selection of fresh fish, different meats and vegetables to choose from. It was delicious. Kay tried every fish going and pretty much liked them all and even Anthony like some of the fish too!
Day 11 - Leaving Singapore
The manager of the bar we were at was this womaToday we decided to leave Singapore and head to Kuala Lumpur. The train left at 2pm which we missed so we had to wait until 10pm for the next one. This one obviously travelled through the night and in true backpacker style we decided not to book anywhere in KL (or even research the area) just turn up!
When we finally boarded the train (after a long day of just wondering around), the air-con was broken! God that was horrible it was like a sauna inside and we were literally stuck to our seats. I thought I was going to lose Anth at one point and gain a puddle as a boyfriend...
The train journey was 11 hours long but after about 3 hours one of the cabin crew took pity on us and said that there were two beds available in the first class area and we can have them - THANK YOU!!!!! Heaven! A bed and air conditioning! We had a good nights sleep after that!
Next stop, Kuala Lumpur...
