I am slowly being eaten alive by some creature of the night. With each new day I am finding more bites, before too long I will be one massive red lump!
Day 2 in Marrakesh we decided to try do a self guided walking tour, in reality we would walk up to 4 hours getting lost in a myriad of lanes fighting for space with donkeys, bikes and people, sometimes finding ourself in a new medina or souk - never actually finding the starting point of our self guided walk. In a last ditch effort we hopped in a taxi, only to find ourselves being more lost than before. Admitting defeat we decided to retreat back to the main square Jemaa El-Fna, it only took us another hour to find it - note to myself: get a proper map and don't rely on the one in the lonely planet!
Starving and somewhat tired we had a stroke of luck, we found some respite in a great little eaterie serving chickpea soup, Moroccan crepes and the best mint tea, even better our whole meal cost a mere 20 dirhams.
We spent the evening eating at number 97 food stall and wandering the square dipping in and out of groups of people huddled around performers - one that sticks to mind is a man surrounded by about 20 people sat one the ground with hundreds of teeth in front of him, chanting... needless to say we didn't stick around for long.
The sound in the square is immense - drums, flutes, people talking, yelling, laughing, chanting. You are just surrounded by a constant medly of noise - its awesome and something quite unlike I have experienced before.
With 10pm approaching and us quickly loosing staying power we drank cinnamon tea and ate spicy cake at a one of the sweet stalls...
