Saturday 29th August
Flew to the Island Ko Samui, staying at Nids Bungalows. Met my neighbours, 2 Kiwi girls Anna and Leanna, and an Irish girl Michelle, and we hit it off straight away and spent the whole time together, we hit the beach for a swim and were serenaded by a Thai icecream seller who demonstrated his dancing and singing skills, plus martial arts whilst singing at the top of his voice how icecream was good for us all and we must buy one to be happy. I loved his impersonation of a cockney accent, the way he pronounced 'lovely' as 'luvvly'. Spot on. We were all crying with laughter - fantastic selling skills. We then all had a traditional Thai massage by lovely women on mattresses all next to each other just on the sea front, so as we were having our limbs manipulated into all sorts of positions we were listening to the waves. Feeling all refreshed we hit the town for dinner and cocktails. Next day we all went on a snorkelling trip to the neighbouring Islands of Ko Tao and Ko Nang Yuan. There were huge multicoloured fish and they were swimming right in my face and nibbling on my feet and I could hear them munching on the coral. Hit the town again later for cocktails and got a chance to cuddle a baby monkey -awwww. Ended up in a club with a couple of Burmese guys who work in the restaurant we went to last night and danced til the wee hours of the morning, rubbing shoulders with the sex workers, (the only part of my body I'd want to rub against them thats for sure).
Wednesday 2nd September
Got a boat to Ko Phangan to meet Colin as arranged for the Full Moon Party. He picked me up on his quadbike. This is the guy who has had 2 major motorbike accidents back home, spending months in hospial and has metal rods to replace irrepairable smashed bones - and I got on the back of his quadbike!! His mate Jason was on a normal motorbike so took my backpack for me, and I played roulette with my life. I'm addicted to adrenaline rushes, even though it scared the crap out of me and I was holding on so tightly I lost all feeling in my hands and thighs, and Colin said to lean forward as we were going up hills or I'd fly off the back - so I leant so far forward my chin was resting on his shoulder. Got there and for some reason he was being really distant and standoffish with me, after he's been really sweet on all the texts and emails saying he was really looking forward to seeing me again, blah blah blah xxx so I text Anna and she reserved a room at the Morning Star resort where her and Leanna are staying, so in the morning I moved and the place is fantastic, my doublebed hut is next to the pool, the beach is a 10 second walk away, so whilst lounging by the pool the beach is right next to us overlooking Ko Samui. Its great to be with the girls again. f*** Colin and his dodgy mood, I will not be treated like that by anyone. Knob.
Friday 4th September - FULL MOON PARTYYYYYY!!!!
Well me and the girls had a lazy day in preparation for tonights madness. It was the Full Moon Party at Haad Rin beach. In high season theres up to 30,000 people but they reckoned that tonight there were about 12,000 people raving on the beach. Us girls got all tarted up and met 3 English lads at our resort, so we got a taxi together, met Michelle and her Aussie mate Glen, so it was the 8 of us tonight. One of the English lads called Steven was fantastic, proper posh boy from Abingdon, but adorable, and first stop for us all was getting our faces painted with UV paint, and we all got buckets of drink. I had buckets of vodka and red bull and the others had other concoctions, so we just all shared each others. I'd heard loads of rumours that they usually put amphetamines in there as well to keep you going. There were different DJ booths and small tents lining the beach along with a rope swing on fire, people mashed off their t*** with glow sticks and all sorts. It was great fun. We worked our way up and down the beach stopping at places with music we liked. Its so hard dancing in sand, and my flip flops decided to break on me tonight, so barefoot it was, having to be careful not to stand on glass, but it was fine. I'm sure there was something in my bucket as I was wide awake and having the time of my life. At 6am we got breakfast, then ended up going back on to the beach when the sun had come up and people were still raving - it was carnage. Got home at 8am and my pupils were like saucers!! We all died but none of us could sleep, was having major comedown without knowingly popping any drugs. MUST be the redbull - proper strong stuff!! Steve came to knock on my door several times throughout the day, but when I heard him calling my name I couldn't physically move or answer. Me, Michelle and Glen had been the last ones to leave as we were still on a roll dancing on the beach when the others had flaked out and gone home, so Anna phoned to make sure I was okay, I told her I was dying a slow and painful death in my room. Steve came back once I'd emerged from my death pit and when I answered the door he said he'd been really worried about me all day - awwww bless his little posh cotton socks. We managed to get some food inside us, then off to bed again to die. Great night, haven't been 'raving' in years properly and loved it, although if I'm going to have a come down I would have actually liked to have felt the benefits of coming up and a high in itself (sorry mum - but I promise I did NOT do drugs!!!).
Left the girls and went to the Island Ko Phi Phi. Went on a days snorkelling trip round the Islands. It was a beautiful day and there were 12 of us on a longtail boat. We went round Phi Lei, Monkey bay where there were loads of wild monkeys hanging around the sea on the rocks and in the trees, there were big males with HUGE testicles (very impressive in relation to their general size), small adolescents and mums with their babies clinging to them. Tourists were hand feeding them fruit but I kept a safe distance. I don't trust monkeys - they are far too much like humans - unpredictable. We then went snorkelling around turquoise bays and the fish and coral were beautiful, then had lunch on a proper Robinson Crusoe beach (apart from the boats full of us tourists obviously) and went for a swim in the warm waters, then was the big baby. We went to Maya Bay which is where the film 'The Beach' was filmed. The boats pulled up into a bay, so we jumped out and swam to the edge where we had to clamber over wet rocks almost breaking our necks, it was so amusing to see us all tentavely clambering over on our stomachs like toddlers learning to walk as we feared for our lives and safety of keeping our bones intact, and then there were some rope lines to help pull us up onto a bamboo ladder, so up the ladder, down the other side, clambering over more rocks then a 5 minute trek through bushland, round the corner and...... TA DA!!!! The Beach in all its glory. I was very impressed, Unfortunately Leonardo Di'Caprio was unavailable, caught up somewhere in Hollywood undoubtedly. The beach wasn't very long, but it was perfect white sand and big cliffs on each side, and across the way the cliffs left a gap which led out to the sea (which is how the big bad shark managed to get in and eat the man in the film) - which is total rubbish as the water is so shallow. The water was pure turquiose and I could go so far out and it still only reached my waist. I was swimming away thinking "Oh my god, Leo's been in this water, how cool is THAT?". I've only seen the film once, so I need to watch it again when I get home, and then I can dance excitedly and gloat "I've been there, I've been there!!" whilst pointing at the t.v. (If I'm with anyone at the time, PLEASE don't slap me and tell me not to boast, I need a moment of gloating). Then it was the mission back, and christ knows how many rock indentations I got on my arse from slipping over, but hell it was worth it.
