Unable to visit the tennis on Thursday and Friday as 'confined to barracks' by the extreme temperatures. Swam in pool both mornings but heat has burned the leaves on shrubs near the pool which the hot wind then blew into the water! Record breaking temps even for Melbourne with 40c+ both days - Tom's outside thermometer gave up at 47c. All windows /doors closed and air con on all day and night for 60 hours. Watched tennis on TV until they closed outside courts and closed the roofs on both main arenas. Temperature dropped to 30ish by 11 pm on Friday but the residual heat in the walls continued to radiate all night making for an uncomfortable sleep. As my tennis pass does allow access to the middle weekend, on Saturday, David and I drove to Geelong; a large town an hour's drive from Melbourne. It has a very quirky seafront and pier. An old American carousel had been acquired by the town and restored, the original horses' paintwork has been renovated and horsehair manes and tails restored. We then drove on to Queenscliff, the furthermost point of The west side of the entrance to Philip Bay. The opening to Philip Bay is only 3 kms across and all shipping in and out of Melbourne has to pass through here.

Steph Still enjoy reading all your news you are having such a wonderful trip and now into your last month, its going by so fast. You've certainly chosen a good winter not to be here we're all getting thoroughly fed up with it! Looking forward to reading more of your adventures in the next few weeks.
