Monday, 1st day of the Australian Open Tennis. David and I arrived at midday, having left the apartment less than 30 mins earlier. Free shuttle tram, no queuing, minimal search of bags and great atmosphere - c'mon Wimbledon this is the way to run a Grand Slam tournament! Had ground passes for first day so wandered around outside courts and watched some great matches. I had previously taken out AO membership which meant we could use a members only lounge area overlooking the main public area with a view of the city centre in the background. David immediately found some playmates so beer was consumed by them and I wandered off to get orientated. Later Martina Navratilova gave an interview in the members' lounge and I got a good photo. We finally left late after watching the end of a 5 setter that went on until 21.30. Free shuttle trams run until an hour after close of last play.
