Around the world with Annie
Hi there,
I have spent the last few days hiking. It has been fantastic. After mount Rundal, we went along the Bow River Valley to see the Hoodoos. We stopped off at a river bank because it was so tranquill. Everywhere you looked was a scene from a picture postcard. We were flanked by mountains in every direction. The colour of the water was a bright turquoise. I sat on a rock dipping my feet in the refreshing water. For me, it was a little piece of heaven. The air was so fresh and clean with a gentle smell of pine. The sky was a rich royal blue, it felt so good feeling the sun on my skin with the gentle breeze in my hair. Listening to to river flowing gently beside me was enchanting. I could have stayed there for many hours. (In fact I did).
The hoodoos were interesting. The pillers of rock stood out overlooking the valley below. I liked how the trees hung onto the steeps slopes beside the hoodoos.
Yesterday, we climbed mount Rundal again to reach the summit. It was a 7-8 hour hike. (Over 4500 feet). I would like to say I reached the top, but I bailed out. Once we left the treeline, we were very exposed. I climbed/hiked to a point where intelligence, rationale and fear told to come back down. I did not feel particularly safe. Climbing/hiking over screes and narrow passages with sheer drops of hundreds of feet beside me was not at all comforting. The only form of protection I had was my fear and rationale. One day, I will return to Mount Rundal and reach his summit. The pictures don't really show how high and rocky the trail was. Out of the three of us, only one manged to reach the summit. That was Ben and Monkey the Moose.
We all had a good meal last night. I ate steak. One thing I have found in Banff, is that the food can be expensive. Cheap nasty bread is a pound here. Needless to say, I don't buy it. The kiwi fruits and avocardo are beautiful. My diet is still good, lots of salads etc. Today is a quiet day, mainly to rest our legs and prepare for tomorrow. We are going to Calgarey to watch the Stampede. We have to get up very early, 3.45am to catch the greyhound bus. I'm really looking forward to it. It's going to be so much fun.
I hope you are all keeping well and looking after yourselfs. Take care for now.
Lots of love Annie
