Back in Melbourne after spending Christmas in Wangarratta. I came back with Tom and Sarah on Boxing Day leaving David there for a few more days. I Went to the sales on 27th but didn't buy anything! That's a first. David returned and he went to the 5th day of the third test at MCG while I visited the tennis centre to see about buying tickets for the open which starts on 19th Jan. Managed to get 2 seats for evening session on the first day in the Rod Laver arena. My lucky day as more tickets had just been made available. 4th row from the front, next to players entrance. Result!
Tom and Sarah set off on their road trip to Adelaide and Barossa Valley so parents are house sitting. New Years Eve was spent with Kristy and Colin and his parents. Watched the fireworks from just outside their apartment. As ever with Melbourne, all public transport free for 12 hours from 6 pm so took advantage of this along with most of the rest of Melbourne. We caught the train home around 2 am, everyone on train wishing each other a good new year, all ages, all nationalities, no incidents, no results of binge drinking, everyone cheerful and friendly.
2/1. Caught the train to Geelong to meet up with friends who used to live in Sittingbourne (John originally hails from Melbourne) who are over here visiting his family. Had a great day, lovely lunch at a winery overlooking 'The Heads', the narrow entrance from the ocean into Philip Bay and Melbourne. We spent a fab day catching up on progress of our children (Sue was our kids' primary school teacher) and their daughter, Frith and Hannah are still friends. Temp today was 38c and is forecast to be 42c tomorrow! And is forecast to be 23c on Sunday.
