The weather hadn't been so great since surfing, so we decided rather than sit around our hotel room all day watching TV, we would try and give me a heart attack for a bit of action! lol
I don't know why I agreed, but Wednesday morning we were on a bus, heading towards a theme park! Now I'm a bit of a wimp when it comes to rides and Ian knew this! But this didn't matter; we were going on the scariest looking ride first 'The Giant Drop'!!!!
When we had arrived, the queue was quite large which gave me a bit of time to try and persuade Ian to just go to the water park across the car park. However it turned out it would be cheaper to buy a ticket which combined the theme park 'Dream World' and the water park:) 'White Water World' rather than paying for an individual ticket, which seemed to be a fair compromise.
We paid for our tickets and entered Dream World, I don't really understand why it was called this, lol. You could see the dreaded ride ' The Giant Drop', It was so high! people were seated at the top, their feet dangling in the air for what seemed a life time! Then all of a sudden they dropped at an alarming 84 mph to the ground!
We made our way towards the line of people waiting their turn, which was to my relief quite long. Normally there are two sides to the ride, but only one was functioning, which meant only eight people on the ride at a time.
I wasn't too sure about the choice in decor, dusty old wires hanging from the walls and ceiling and fake painted danger signs. However as I looked around us further, I noticed that children were queuing also, I couldn't imagine that they were being forced to get on, which made me think the ride can't be all that bad.
An hour had passed, my nerves had calmed down alot and we were both getting quite fed up of queuing, but it was nearly our turn, so not much longer to wait! A member of staff approached us, opened the gate and lead us towards the ride! My heart started pounding! What on earth am I doing! LOL! We put our bags in the storage boxes and sat in our seats on the ride, ready to be locked in! No turning back now! With a click and a clunk we were well and truly stuck. Immediately one of the workers shouted, " Smile for the camera on the way down! " and we started to move up!
We were going so high! I tried to remain calm, concentrating on the view in the distance. Then it stopped, I knew from watching before, that we had a wait before it dropped, so I attempted to distract myself by looking at the view longer. It was quite pretty and quiet, the sun was shining on a row of trees, believe it or not it was somewhat pleasant. Until we juddered and aughhhhhh!! We were falling! I screamed for as second time then before we knew it, it was over. All that time spent waiting and trying to prepare myself and it only lasted for 106 seconds! LOL! It wasn't that bad either, quite good fun really! But suprisingly I didn't think to smile for the camera! As you can see in the picture :)
I was all excited to get onto another ride! So we queued up at one called Mick Doohan's Motocoaster, which Ian had to explain to me, was named after a famous motorcyclist. I could tell Ian was looking forward to this one! He hadn't riden his bike for a while and wanted to see if it was anything like the real thing.
We were lucky as two girls were too nervous to go in Pole position and gave us their spot! We sat on the bikes, got strapped in and soon after we were away! Zooming around a winding rollercoaster track! Ian looking like a pro tucked in and I'm sat there like I'm riding a scooter, grinning like an idiot! lol!
It was too busy to go on any other rides at Dreamworld, so we thought since we are such big fans of Australia Big Brother! :S LOL We would have a look at the inside of the Big Brother house which is convieniently located in the theme park WOW! LOL!
Afterwards we found something else which looked like a bit of fun. It was based on The Mummy movie and in a line of around six, with hands on each others shoulders we walked through a corridor in the dark! Ian was in front as I was too scared! lol! There were live actors jumping out from behind walls and even running after us at the end!
Back to reality outside, we walked to 'White Water World'. We went on every ride there :) One was very unusual, a bit like a rollercoaster, one part of the slide went up instead of down! It was like I was a kid again! :)
The next day was sunny and we made the most of it by relaxing at the beach in the moring. In the afternoon we decided to hire out two surf boards and have a go at standing up again, however this did not go as well as the first time!
The waves were about three times larger than the first time! Which made just lying on the boards without falling off difficult! Waves were tumbling over us, they also ripped the board from my arms twice, causing my left shoulder to hurt quite a bit and there even seemed to be a current trying to take us out to sea, but we stuck at it for 3 and a half hours!
Despite the challenge Ian managed to stand up a number of times whereas I could ony crouch then fall! lol
We both survived with quite a few grazes, pulls and bruises, suprisingly the only thing holding us back from going again, is our ears being blocked with water!
