Hola! So I made it to Sevilla and loved since I walked off the bus!! I really don't even know where to begin!!
My host family is AMAZING!!! Miguel is my padre and is hysterical! (tough competition Dad!!) I got into the car and one of the first things he asked me was where I was from in the States. I said Boston, and automatically responded excitedly with, "BOSTON CELTICS!!!" He's one of the biggest NBA fans I've ever met! Every now and then he'll speak the little English he knows, and it's very funny! He works for the government—and other than that, I'm not entirely sure what he does.
My madre's name is Maria (along with every other host mom it seems) and is also very funny, and a GREAT cook! Everything I've eaten that she's made has been so good, and hard to believe it's homemade! Both of my padres are very outgoing, and great to just sit and chat with! They've been hosting students from ISA for 12 years so they're seasoned pro's.
I also have a hermanito who's name is Aurelio. He's tall just like Jon, and definitely has the same kind of "Go-With-Flow" attitude. I saw him walking down the street with a friend and I shouted "HOLA HERMANO!!!" He responded the same way Jon would—aka looked embarrassed and kinda waved. I'll try to explain to him some day that I have a brother in the States who is close to the same age, and for a semester he's my replacement!
My hermana has yet to be sighted. Apparently she goes to art school and is pretty weird. She lives in an apartment downtown, so chances are I'll never see her (probably a good thing I guess).
Since I've been in Sevilla (since Thursday evening) my days have been FILLED with tours tours tours!!! Tour of the city, tour of University of Sevilla, tour of the Catedral…SO MUCH WALKING! The city is so beautiful and exactly what I imagined it to be! Cobble stone streets, palm trees, friendly people, and even some horse drawn carriages! Thursday night I just stayed in and organized my room and chatted with my family! Watched some football, played with Luna, and relaxed—much needed! Friday was NUTS! At 9am we had our orientation to Universidad de Sevilla! I walked into the room, and there were a good 250 other Americans! I had no idea how many of us had taken over the city! After a pretty boring meeting, we had some coffee and continued onto our tour of the University. It's so big!!! Over 75,000 students! It makes Pitt seem like an elementary school! Thank god our classes are concentrated into one building of it! After our tour, we were shown where the ISA office is. Nothing too exciting. Then, we got our tour of the Catedral! It's so gorgeous, and I took a lot of pictures! After we got to escape from our tour guide, my friends and I took on the city! We walked around and I think we got a pretty good grasp of where things are. We had a quick meeting at the ISA office, and then did a little shopping. Thennn we had another meeting at a hotel in downtown, then some tapas in the lobby. My day started at 9, and ended at 10!
Saturday was much more relaxing! I finally got to wake up after 7:30am! I slept until about 12:15, and then had some breakfast/lunch before heading out with my friends. We spend the whole day walking around Sevilla! By the time we got home it was about 10pm, and almost time for dinner. Megan (my roommate) had a friend who is studying in another city visiting, so we all ate together. After dinner, I was SO beat and went to bed at around midnight—unheard of in Spain for a Saturday night! WhenI told mis padres I hadn't gone out the night before, they were like, WHY?? Are you ok??? They totally understood though, when I told them I was just so exhausted from the previous week.
That brings me to today! I got to sleep in again which was heavenly. We start classes tomorrow so I just hung around the house all day. I think that's what a lot of my friends did! We know we have a very long and exciting week ahead, so we're trying to get as much sleep now as possible! I'll try to get pics up asap—we don't have wifi yet, but it should be coming sometime this week!
Mucho amor y besitos!!
