Our last stop in New Zealand before we head to Chile, and we still havent learnt any Spanish, oops. The centre is huge and we got lost numerous times on the drive into the centre. It is busy!!! and we are just not use to lots of cars or different lanes of traffic, the rest of New Zealand is empty lol. We wandered the streets of Auckland and I managed to find a Latin American Spanish phrasebook, I might be able to say something at least. Col evenutally bought some new Converse trainers, and said goodbye to his old ones, they were a state and had holes in the bottom, but then again, he has walked all over the far east, Oz and most of NZ in them. The day before we left we just hung around the campground, got all our washing done, etc ready for the flight and bag packing, cleaning out the campervan and disposing of food that we wont get to eat. We also went into the town for a look around, it seemed like a nice area and only 10 minute car journey into the city centre. The day we left we headed upto One Tree Hill (Maungakiekie), wow, what spectacular views of the city you got and the surrounding little islands. It's a volcanic cone and was the greatest fortress in the country, it does give an amazing 360 degree views. There isnt a tree however, as the Monterey pine was chopped down in 2000, which was a replacement for a scared totara that was chopped down by British settlers in 1852 (typical). The Maori activits got rid of the pine in 2000 and another tree hasnt been planted. Even U2 released a song 'One Tree Hill' on the album The Joshua Tree which was about the tree.
After our little detour we headed to take the campervan back, we said our goodbyes and called a cab to take us to the airport.
Our time in New Zealand was over, and we have both had an amazing wicked time. It is a place of great beauty and clean air. We will hopefully come back one day.
