One of the biggest surprises of this trip is how green Northern Morocco is. It’s really quite green; partly because the topography is quite different from the desert in the south and partly because it’s been a very cool and wet Spring. Lucky us, we get to see the beauty!

Chefchaouen was one of the main reasons for this trip. I’d seen photos some time ago and it furthered my interest in visiting Morocco. We had two nights here and I was very excited to spend hours exploring this charming little village. The hotel we stayed in was only a few minute walk from the entrance to the Médina, which made exploring easy, safe and quick! I could have spent days wandering the little alleyways, exploring new corners and the odd little Hobbi...

Today we got up early and caught the train from Casablanca to Rabat. It was a pretty short journey to the nation’s capital and home of the King. Rabat is very different from Casablanca-it’s very clean, well laid out and lots of modern buildings. Green spaces and parks were quite abundant as well. We ordered some lunch at a restaurant that kindly agreed to store our luggage and then went off to explore for a few hours before meeting back there for lunch. Ou...

After meeting my 15 fellow travelers I had a nice dinner of beef tajine, lentil salad and potatoes. My first Moroccan mint tea. So yummy - I love the tiny teapot it came in! Just caught the tail end of the last call-to-prayer and tried to record it. If it works I’ll post it for your enjoyment! Early morning train tomorrow as the adventure really begins.

Day 1 in Morocco. Spent it mostly trying to sleep and rest up from the journey here. About to go to the meeting with my group and meet everyone, get the scoop for the coming days and really kick this thing off. As I’m lying here, I’m listening to the first call-to-prayer that I’ll likely hear several times a day every day. I’ve honestly been looking forward to this moment since I started planning this trip.
