After waking up feeling a tad groggy from the drinks the night before, the last thing us 2 wanted to do was board a 2 hour ferry to Koh Phi Phi Don. But we got on with it and with a not so bad sea journey later we were finally here and we couldnt wait for this place as we had heard alot about the Phi Phi and how nice it was, clear blue sea, golden sand, good night life and most importantly, Maya bay! Maya Bawas were "The Beach" was filmed and as Daffy (A Character on the movie) said "It's Paradise". So when we arrived it was then time to have the pain in the ass job of getting past all the guides trying to sell the ususal and find a hostel, which is not what you want to be doing when your hungover, the sun's beating down on you and your carrying a rock on your back.
Another 2 hours of prancying about trying to find a place suitable for lucy we agreed on going back to the 1st hostel we saw and settled in there. The Harmony Inn. 400 baht a night which was the cheapest on the island we found, and it had a t.v, a fan, which we didnt really care about as we was used to that in langkawi, and its own bathroom. PLus it was bang in the centre of it all with an Irish Bar right next door, ideal! We also shared the room again with the local nature, lots of mosquitos as usual gheckos, pray mantis but we didnt mind them at all, aslong there wasnt no bleeding cockroaches!
Once we dumped our kit off we took a little sroll around the village which was made up of little streets where you could easily get lost if you didnt know where you were going and we did a few times but the islands tiny so we were never far...we checked out all the stalls, shops and for me, the food stalls where i bought a big old corn on the cob which was devoured in minutes whilst sitting on the beach watching the locals play football. It was then time to go to the Irish bar for a quick drink and from there we went to the reggae bar opposite which was advertising cheap drinks and muay thai fighting. When we got in there, the real muay thai fighters where just showing a few demos before they were getting fellow travellers up to have a quick sparring fight for a free bucket (bucket is a sand castle bucket with a bottle of thai whiskey or anything else you can name poured in with redbull and a little coke, strong as hell) Some people where taking it far to seriously with 1 fight ending up a pub brawl, but the thai fighters stepped in to calm everyone down. One bloke was sparring with a thai fighter going all out trying to take this pour guys head off, but the thai fighter had enough of his antics and gave one kick to the guys head. He was down and needed the free bucket after that, i even had a headache watching it! It was then time to retire for the night after getting some rice and chicken off of one of the stalls close by.(Which we ending up eating her chicken everyday lovely jubley!)
The next day we just mooched about MORE SHOPS and Ton Sai Bay, the beach close to us and book awe also booked a half days snorkelling trip for the next day to Koh Phi Phi Ley. In the evening we bought a bucket each and headed towards the beach where we chilled watcging the sunset before heading to one of the many bars their watching fire shows and all other tricks just dancing drinking the night away. It was a really cool place, all the bars in one line all showing different fire shows, discos's, fires burning all over the place.
On our last day on this beautifull place we where going snorkelling and doing a bit of sight seeing around Koh Phi Phi Ley. We had to meet everyone else on the trip at the travel agents where we got given a free lunch (more rice) and a bottle of cheap nasty water before heading towards the longboat and captain who awaited us. The tour guide/captain was the worst person for this job, he certanlly didnt want to be there and was not helpfull at all.
Our 1st stop was to monkey island which sounded great but when we got there, the tiny beach it was was flooded with people with only around 5 monkeys onit. We wasnt fussed as we have seen monkeys on our travels before this and will certainlly see them again. After Monkey beach we then sailed past Viking cave on Phi Phi Ley, which noone could go inside as the sea was to choppy to get close. The cave has different stone drawings inside and was residence to the local sea gypsies 100's of years ago.We then headed to Phi Ley bay which is a lagoon where we would did abit of snorkelling. The lagoon was out of this world, beautifull and after a trip inside the boat set anchor! The snorkelling was very dangerous as alot of other boats were coming in and they all line up together we nearly got crushed so many times contemplating weather to give up we saw a guys head nearly be taken off by the engine and when everyone shouted the driver just shruggged his head needles to say we got straight bakc up in the boat!g, one bloke in our boat stepped onto a sea urchin which you had to avoid and it was very hard work as alot of coral was raised high with a hell of alot of people getting sea urchins stuck in there feet ouch!
Loh Sama was the place where we had to get off the boat to trek a few 100 metres onto Maya Bay. Getting off we could sea alot of people struggling to get onto this fun rope which you had to grab a hold of and get to some steep dodgy steps to take you over the cliff face. It was hard work as the tide kept bashing people all over the place but at the same time funny as everyone was wiping out trying to hold on. We got onto main land where we walked through where the main camp was filmed in the movie and behind a few bushes was MAYA BAY!!!! It really was paradise, the best beach we will ever lay foot on, the beach was soft, golden, and the sea crystal clear. It was breathe taking and we both felt really overwhelmed by it all we had 2 hours there but they were soon up and we headed back to the boat where we would have to fight to get on the ropes again haha although thankfully Abit easier this time. When we where climing on the boat i lost my footing and bashed my foot and at the same time accidently pulling down lucys swimming bottoms which she thought i done on purpose and gave me a ticking off, she was especially pissed off as a brazillian man behind her caught it all haha but i showed my foot which was cut up and she accepted my apology, to be honest everyone was sporting cuts and bruises all over their bodies, lucy had a big bruise on her leg which looked painfull! And everyone bleeding knees and toes! It was then time to head back to the main island which was really frightening as the sea was quite choppy and the waves were engulfing the fragile long wooden boat but we managed to make it back safely after all gripping on to one another and life jackets.
In the eveneing we went up to the famous Banana Bar which has the islands only roof top bar and drunk a few beers watching the sun go down under the island. I turned round to lucy talking about the days event's and said to her ''wouldnt it be cool if we could watch The Beach" and no word of a lye it came onto the main screen they had, Great! So we ened up pulling a few deck chairs and watching the film reminising about the days events and every 5 minutes pointing out ''Weve Been There" it was a good film to end the night with and unfortunalty our last day on Phi Phi.To keep our little tradition going we decided to get 1 last bucket and chill on the beach with it. Thats all i can remember before waking up on my back on the shower floor spraying me with the bumwasher haha wondering how the hell did i get here like this. After a millions shouts for me to get up and her realising i wouldnt move she just started taking photos thinking it was then funy but really i couldnt be bothered to move, the shower felt too nice. Lucy said i was running in the shower and just wiped out before a massive THUD on the floor haha, she thaught i done some damage but then like i said decided to take photos instead bless her!Il have my comeback im sure!
The next morning it was time to board yet another ferry which would take us to Phuket. Again sporting a hangover and heavy backpack, but add a bad back to that! It was to early for any s*** like that!
