Nothing really to say on Vientiene the "capital" we were warned by everyone not to go but wanted to see for ourselves and really it isnt anything special at all and we spent the whole three nights and two out of three days drunk!
When we arrived it was so so hot and we had a very strange guy tag along with us we wanted to get rid of him sharpish so when we saw a very expensive looking hotel explained we were staying there and then off our tail he was...shame we werent actually staying there as we ended up in the worst place we have been so far!!! it was ant and god knows what else ridden with a very small fan that didnt work! The day we ventured out was to a very wierd indian market lots going on,and of course we were the only westerners there dont really no how we ended up there but as you can imagine it was very uncomfortable we left sharpish well after being lost in the maze for about an hour :( ! This night even though we had already payed for our hostel checked out and then into the very plush hotel :) So here we cafe hopped again except everywhere was full of some stinking old stoner!Or flocks of kids coming up and literally within about a minute all your food and drinks are gone and then so are they!
On a happier note Laos is the most beautiful country everyone talks about tubing but just driving through Laos is amazing in itself( in a minivan of course) its very rural and naturistic and when driving around the mountains seeing whole familys bathing in tiny streams, little tiny children running along the edge of the cliffs and no one bats an eyelid because its the norm,a maybe one year old little boy in a flithy work shop naked spinning motorbike wheels and his 2/3year old sister running around inside the place full of nails and burning open fires?Meeting little bare footed scraggy clothed girls with babies strapped to there back in the middle of nowhere on the mountain in a cafe trying to get food!Definatley an eye opener!Groups of woman all preparing there food and the men playing chess with bottletops! The mountains and limestone cliffs are breathtaking alone and then put together with the mekong/paddy fields and little shanty shack towns with people waving at you is a very cool sight. We LOVED Laos and have lots of very special/crazy memories from there it was a sad goodbye from this chilled out country but we WILL be back :)
