Back in the USA
Nice start to the day, breakfast, chatting and laughing with Marc then a quick dance or two on his lovely wooden floor before getting ready to go. We dropped Marc off at 'work' aka the university where he's studying electrical engineering and headed off to Walmart to do the shopping we didnt have time for yesterday. Spent way too long as usual and didnt start driving until about 2pm!! As we headed south the scenery gradually changed more and more from what looked almost England like with farms, fields, greenery etc to flatter and flatter, golden spaces with far distant horizons and heat hazes in the distance! We got to the border crossing at about 5 and picked up some maps and brochures before heading through with minimum difficulty. As we drove on the land undulated gently and vast open plains seemed to go on forever!! Occasionally the land around us would develop grooves and ridges that looked as if they should be on the moon or something, very hard to describe, before levelling off again and going on forever. We made reasonable time and got to the outskirts of Great Falls at dusk after a wondrous half hour where the sun was setting behind us and the fresh, full moon shone in front. Back to some kind of civilisation...we found petrol a lot cheaper than in Canada and at a Holiday station...super coffee time again, YAY!! As we were filling up a local helped us plan our route to Billings tomorrow with the map we'd picked up spread across Bertha's bonnet...very American lol!! We had planned on going to see Giant Springs which is one of the largest natural water springs in the world, pumping about 156 million gallons a day!!! but night came upon us too quickly and instead we settled for driving to the truckstop recommended to us to stay the night. Unfortunately its right between a main road, a weigh bridge and a railway, so well lit and rather noisy but never mind!! Andy had a bit of a clear out when we'd had some food as Bertha was getting a bit too cluttered...so much so that he could barely fold the seats down to get the bed sorted...!
