Day 12 is here already and as is usually the case, when approaching the end of a holiday the days seem to pass that much more quickly.
Today was not going to be one of the most enjoyable days we had spent away and was a little stressful at times which I shall come on to in a moment.
The day started badly when Josie called the airport regards our missing suitcase the whole saga of which was been handled appalling by all concerned.
We were advised yesterday that the case would be delivered by the courier this morning. This turned out to be a complete lie as when we called the airport this morning for the umpteenth time they told us the courier does not work at the weekends...so assuming we ever see the suitcase again at the earliest it will be Monday now, hardly worthwhile as we leave on Wednesday.
Anyway Josie and I were furious needless to say and the lady at the end of the phone got a right ear bashing, not her fault personally but we had been lied to and they are totally ignoring the impact this is having on our family.
On a completely different subject, wehad been advised by the chap that appears to run the accommodation (single handedly) that we could move to a new apartment today which had air conditioning - the one we were in was a nice size but quite uncomfortable at times due to the heat. So we packed up everything ready to go by 10.30.
10.30 came and the new room was being cleaned so we would have to wait, in the end we just took our things along to the next room and moved in anyway picking up the keys soon after.
However, the air conditioning failed to work despite the best efforts of the chap who runs the site and who explained he had had someone come in the previous day to fix it and who he had paid.
As Millie still had no swimwear off we went to a local shop to find her some , thankfully we were able to in a local shop on one of the campsites along the road.
Millie who is 16 and a typical stroppy know it all teenager at times spent the rest of the day in a foul mood and we had all the usual backchat etc which really was not helping. Sunburn and frustration about the suitcase no doubt contributing towards her mood.
Anyway, after all this, we jumped in the car and drove to another beautiful beach. What we didn't realise was there would be a long walk through bushes , boardwalk and sand to get to the sea. I put 3€ in the car park machine - which eat up the money and would not produce a ticket, another slight irritation of the day. In fact given that the balance of the machine (credit) was zero when approached it I doubt if anyone bothers paying anyway as these beaches as so remote. The balance remained at 3€ when I walked away.
It was worth the wait though, the beach was beautifully sandy and far less busy than the one we had visited yesterday, and had gorgeous views and the same shimmery turquoise water which is warm and great to swim in. Our 18 year old was not Impressed though as there were no (rip off) sun beds available here so she sat on a piece of driftwood near the sea.
We only seem to last an hour or so on the beach as it's just too hot to stay any longer, and today was no exception. Today we took a packed lunch with us so at least the spend today was low with funds rapidly getting low now we are approaching the end of the holiday.
Millie's swimming costume was €29 not cheap but we will be reclaiming this cost back from Ryanair.
The afternoon was spent by the pool, which was lovely and relaxing, no entertainment today though. The pool doesn't really start getting busy until after 4pm as for many it's just too hot to stay out in the early afternoon sun, us Brits though are a breed apart so were there practically on our own for the first hour or so.
Madalyn our 10 year old just loves the water and said she thinks she must have spent 30% of her days in water during our stay in Sardinia which is probably not a bad estimate.
I haven't really described our accommodation in Sardinia in too much detail yet, so now seems like a good time to do so.
The complex consists of a mix of 1 but mainly two story apartments with either gardens or balconies. We have had balconies on both occasions. The properties are painted in creams yellows, oranges and terracottas, with dark wooden shutters and Spanish style roofs. All apartments are linked with pathways where you'll occasionally come across a lizard or two scurrying across the pathway.
The gardens are all very well kept and there is a small reception office where Wifi can be used immediately outside and where you will often see a handful of guests sitting down with their tablets or smartphones.
Towards the back of the complex is the pool which is quite large but not too deep and has a children's pool attached to it, all very safe and clean. Amongst the do's and don'ts of the pool detailed on a sign are the usual no jumping, shouting or bombing etc, but also appearing is " no petting " with an image of a couple kissing which I thought was quite amusing.
Also by the pool is a wooden bar where you can buy ice creams, and both alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks at reasonable prices.
Our apartment has a large tiled floor living / dining / kitchen area, with two large double bedrooms, and two bathrooms both with showers. It has a hob but no oven, large fridge freezer and cupboards for storage.
Whilst clean and tidy the site could do with a bit of TLC in places with some of the apartments needing a repaint, but overall it's pleasant, friendly and quiet. The chap that runs the place is great and very helpful too.
We decided we would eat out tonight, and had seen several people walk down a little road over the last day or two so we thought we'd see what the pull is...and assumed there would be a restaurant down there which indeed there was.
All the tables were laid out with cloths and there were a few staff milling around. I asked for a menu and got what I thought was a bit of a dirty look from (who I assume) was a waiter there. No other customers were in sight and we were sure the restaurant opened at 7pm.
After taking a look at the menu and waiting and waiting and waiting we got up and left after having been ignored for 15 minutes. I asked the chap at the reception desk nearby whether the restaurant should be opened. After I explained what happened he looked confused and apologised. It seems the staff there took an instant dislike to us but given the place was empty I expect it has a bad reputation perhaps unsurprisingly as the next restaurant we found was busier and far more professional looking.
We all had lovely pizzas, my Haway (read Hawaii) was huge and have five pineapple rings across the top. The bill for the four of us (Alex stayed back at the apartment) was just under 50€ including drinks.
After dinner we ventured up to the pool as we had been told there was live music tonight... It turned out that in fact this is tomorrow evening, the final disappointment of the day. Anyway we all had a drink and listened to a CD playing which included such tracks as I will survive ( in Italian ), and an original Club Tropicana by Wham and Crazy little thing called love by Queen who we have heard a fair bit of since we've been away.
The evening was completed with a couple of drinks out on the balcony.
