Our next stop was Yamba. We hadn't heard of this place before but some people from Melbourne suggested it and the oldies at North Haven said that we would like it! So...off we went!
We drove through Coffs Habour and saw the Big Banana. Of course we had to stop for photos! I didn't realise it was such a huge place, with ice-skating, a massive canteen, a huge shop and more! I just thought it was, well, a big banana on the side of the road. Wow were my eyes opened! :)
Our site at Yamba was right on the end, over looking a big oval. Perfect for Charli to run around on! We found out that nearly everyone there had these stupid 'yappy' dogs (sorry to those people who have small yappy dogs) but they were so annoying! Not so much the dogs, but the owners. They kept picking their dogs up when they walked past Charli (who was tied up) as they thought Charli would attack. Charli couldn't care less about them! haha it was funny, but annoying!!
Anyway...the town of Yamba is so lovely! Lots of nice cafes and restaurants with seating outside. We ate lunch out nearly everyday which was a nice change. We found that the town was quite modern and I think this was the case as it is a very popular town during the summer. I reckon lots of young people would go there for the fishing and the surfing.
That brings us onto the fishing part of this blog! Andy spoke to the locals at the bait shop who told us a good place to go fishing. We chose a huge rock wall to fish off. We went fishing 3 out of the 5 full days we were there. We had to walk down the track along the rockwall which was really, really long! As we walked, we stopped every 5-10m to look for some good rocks that we could set up on for fishing. Our choice on day one was like we were rock climbing for 3 hours! We went home exhausted and were in bed by 7. The next two times we actually thought about where to set up and chose 2 prime positions where we could relax, bask in the sun and catch some fish! I was on a roll with the fishing, up 8-5, but on the last day of fishing, Andy caught up by catching 2 fish and me catching nothing! So it stands 8-7 with me still up.
We didn't do much more in Yamba, but it was a beautiful place with nice people. Andy's beard is going well and he trimmed it for the first time the other day. He looks much less stalker now. :) We are looking forward to getting up into QLD and into some warm weather! We are also soooo excited for the birth of our first niece/nephew and heading back to Melbourne for a quick visit. Charli is going well, driving us crazy at times but who can be angry and that face for more than 5 mins?! Not us!
