Today we caught the bus into Christchurch. We didn’t have a plan for what to do in Christchurch. We’d read our guidebook and there were lots of nice things mentioned, but nothing that really captured our imagination. Even a visit to the visitor centre didn’t provide much inspiration, so we did what we do best and went shopping... We found a Holden dealership near the centre of town as we wanted some souvenirs with our surname on, but we didn’t find anything. The weather was cold and windy, which didn’t help our mood and we ended up having one of our, er, mis-communications. Once we were talking again we retreated to the Irish pub. After a couple of beers we decided to stay there for food and had a couple of nice burgers. Unfortunately our evening was disrupted by several drunken idiots invading our table and hassling us, so we finished our beers at the other end of the bar before heading back to the van. We’d had high hopes for Christchurch as it had been described as being very “English”, but with the lack of stuff we wanted to do, the weather, our mis-communications and the problem we had in the bar, our impressions of Christchurch had unfortunately been tarnished.
