Hello from Uruguay!
Today we added another country stamp to our passports and got the ferry across the Rio de la Plata to Colonia del Sacramento.
The difference to BA is amazing, the air is clearer, it is so peaceful and the old colonial buildings are beautiful! We have found a nice hostel and are going to stay here a couple of days to recharge our batteries before heading on to Montevideo.
Colonia del Sacramento is tiny though, we did a walking tour today and covered the whole town in a few hours, taking in the thick fortified walls that used to protect the town from constant invasion from the Spanish and Portuguese (depending who was in residence at the time!), the cobbled streets are hard to walk on let alone drive and the colonial houses and ruins that are dotted all around the town.
A quick note about the money here, we are dealing in 500 Uruguay pesos notes as a common thing, its crazy there are about 45 pesos to the pound! And we are glad to say the wine is still nice and cheap!
Anyway better go cook our dinner so will catch you all later!
Lots of Love S&A xxx
