Arrived in Cairns yesterday, settled into our unit then went to explore, grocery shop, book our tours of the Reef and Jungle then enjoyed watching some idiot guys play tennis in the pouring rain and 37C temperature. Did you know that in a torrential downpour you will be soaked to the skin in less than one minute ...well, you will, and we were! It was all great for a laugh.
Temp. 37c - overcast and rain
Today we took a trip up the coast to Cape Tribulation, though rainforests, sugar cane fields, tea crops, beautiful coastal scenery, and quaint little villages with wonderful coffee shops and delicious homemade ice cream. The edge of cyclone Oswald went through this area a couple of days ago so the roads were a little challenging with debris, slides and pot holes but Grant managed to avoid all obstacles. This area North of Cairns has very beautiful, rugged terrain and we went as far as we could without a 2x4. It was a very worthwhile adventure. Took a million pictures .... Highlight was a stop for our first swim in the ocean, lots of stingers around, but the swim "pool" was protected.
Temp. 37C and sunny (thank goodness for AC)
