We left Venice at about 9.30 this morning though we could have easily stayed another couple of days.
We drove to Pisa on our way to Florence. Something our travel agent decided we should do, rather than stay in Pisa for the night. We probably shouldn't have attempted to do it this way as we felt quite pressured for time, realizing we had to get to Florence and find our apartment.
I was completely surprised at the Tower. It really is leaning, and it is quite beautiful. Apparently it's been cleaned up and it does look stunning. Sadly we didn't have time to climb to the top as the next climb was two hours away. The boys left with their own Leaning Towers, Georges a rather big one to compensate for his disappointment.
Our drive through Florence was rather 'frustrating.'It is a nightmare driving in this place I don't recommend it. It has narrow streets, pedestrians that walk on the road, and Italians driving cars…..enough said. To make it worse, our apartment is right in the middle of an historic area that has pedestrian access only.So we got ourselves to the right area and drove into the first 'skinny' car parking building we found and walked.(Taking only one suitcase with bare essentials.)
To make up for our stress….our apartment is gorgeous. Done in true Italian style and right next to the Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral. We have wandered around the area, had something to eat and are now relaxing in our apartment with a bottle of wine….surprisingly (not) my tolerance has lifted to ½ bottle with ease.
