I really didn't know what to expect with Venice. After our disastrous arrival in Nice I was anxious on the drive to Venice. We were to meet a woman there at 6.00pm and she had given us instructions about parking the car and then taking a water bus. It was sounding all too hard! However, her instructions were very good and by 5.30 we had caught the water bus and were waiting at the bus stop for her.
Our apartment is extremely old but has everything we need. Last night we found the supermarket, cooked up some Ravioli and had it with a bottle of wine, courtesy of the property manager. It is so quiet here, the only noise in the day are voices, and during the night….nothing.
We started off early this morning with our packed lunches and map. Venice is a wonderful place, the lack of roads and presence of only paths and canals make you feel like you're in a fairytale land. Our first stop was to St Marks Basilica, (I think the boys are getting a little tired of churches) though they were impressed with the architecture. Then we went for a Gondola ride….something you've got to do.The boys had their first gelato today and it was Pizza for tea tonight. This is the Life!

Jamie Venice is my favorite place ever - it is so magical! Did you nearly die at the price of the gondola rides?
Catriona Definately the most magical place I've been to...yes we did choke at the cost, even went to another man to see if we could get it cheaper. In the end we just did it....can't go to venice and not go on a gondola. Even got George a little TShirt and Cap.
