What started as a disaster, actually turned out to be OK.We left Cases de Pene at about 10.30 and got to Nice at about 5.00.By 6.00 we realized we were not going to find the B&B and we had started to argue amongst ourselves….family democracy!! Mike called the owner who told us that he had let out our rooms because we hadn't turned up at the estimated time of 2.00 and when he went to charge our credit card, the number was wrong.(I have yet to check the email I sent him to confirm our booking,) but needless to say we were speechless.
We finally found a carpark in the middle of the city, (not easy,) and by chance it was two blocks from a Hotel that had a room for us. Huge relief, the boys were worried we'd be sleeping in the car.
That night we wandered around the streets which were full of people, eating in restaurants and just strolling around. The atmosphere was wonderful and we probably wouldn't have experienced that had we been staying further out in the B&B.
Our night in Nice was only to break the journey from Cases de Pene to Venice but we wanted to let the boys have a swim at least! So, the next morning we were up at 7.30.(We were also only two blocks from the beach.) The sun was warm and so was the sea! The boys were delighted, even Mike got in when he felt how warm the water was. We had the whole beach to ourselves and a huge part of the Mediterranean Sea! We stopped and got fresh croissants and baguettes for breakfast then headed away.
