Been at Eva's Backpacking hostel for 3 days now - excellent cant fault it, people are friendly, there is a fantastic roof garden so there is somewhere to sit in the evenings, the kitchen is big, bright and comfortable, rather than the dingy basment of the last place I stayed at. Sleeping is still a problem, but nothing to do with the hostel other than sharing a room with 5 others. But the atmosphere is good.
Over the last couple of days, been up the Sydney Tower, that was worth the trip, stunning views over the city. Been on the ferries, good way to pass a couple of hours. I usually walk along the harbour path each morning (a good 2 miles) from Kings Cross to Circular Quay, I walk, lots of people run (mad) so I'm doing well with my exercise, I very rashly joined in a yoga class the other morning at a swimming pool gym, always fancied taking part to see what it was like. Done it, probably won't be doing it again, felt well stretched out!!!! Came as a bit of a surprise as I thought the class lasted 1 hour and was mentally winding down after 50 mins, then found that it went on for another half hour, shock, horror. Think they should have paid me for my "extra" time, but it was good (once). If I decide to walk back to the digs, which I sometimes do, the down side is that I need to go up 100 steps, slightly off putting but I am pleased to say that others are as knackered as me when they get to the top.
Yesterday I went to Elizabeth Bay House not far from where I am staying, that was fantastic, was completed in 1839, the owner went broke about 6 years later, not surprised with what he must have spent on the house. But after a long and chequered history it has been restored by the Sydney "historical thingy people" to it's original state and has been brilliantly done. What has now been restored as the master bedroom has a large fourposter which reminded me of the story of the princess and the pea, there were three matresses apparently one of straw one horsehair and one of feathers and down. It needed a small staircase (of three step) to get up to it. What is it that the aussies have about steps????
