We arrived in Santiago on 30th October. Staying in the Happy House Hostel - a converted mansion about 15 mins walk from the centre. The inforced break in proceedings, Lan airline took us off our Easter Island flight without telling us, has been good. Richard has been trying to shake off a cold he picked up in NZ and various tickets have had to be organised. Today we're in transit again. Queenstown is very useful for internet cafes and burning yet more photos onto dvd. This will be disc 15A. Each disc contains about 100 duplicated pics, ie a jpeg and a raw. So that's over 1500 edited photos so far. Richard has deleted about 4500 that didn't make the shortlist! This evening we'll be staying at Wanaka. We may stay there for two nights. Queenstown is just too young for us. It's all bungy jumping, skiing, snow-boarding...

There is so much to see in and around Dunedin we've stayed here for three days. Also, after driving for over 3600km so far in NZ, Richard needed a bit of a rest. When we arrived in Wellington there was a gale blowing and a swell of six metres. So we chickened out of the night crossing and went at 08.00 the next morning. And where did we sleep? Yes you've guessed it, a supermarket carpark! Now we're zooming around the South Island. Kaikoura is beautiful with a range of snow-topped mountains behind it and a lovely beach and sea infront.

We've just zoomed around the East Cape and I'm in Napier frantically trying to add some photos. Napier is a famous Art Deco town. Flattened during that period by a 7.9 earthquake and rebuilt in the style of the day. To Wellington tomorrow to catch a ferry in the early hours to Picton.
